Revest-Les-Roches lies at an altitude of 852 m at the foot of Mont Vial. The village overlooks the lower valleys of the Var and Estéron. The municipal territory rises from the Var to near the 1,550 m summit of Mont Vial; olive trees grow on the steep slopes. The difference in elevation between the village, valley and mountain shapes the landscape. If you are looking for a destination focused on scenery and hiking, Mont Vial is a defining feature here—alongside a village whose buildings reveal several historical periods.

Hiking and views at Mont Vial

From the summit of Mont Vial, expansive views stretch across the Alpes-Maritimes and the Mediterranean, sometimes as far as Corsica. The hiking route up Mont Vial passes the Balme du Vial cave on the northern approach. The summit is at 1,550 m. This mountain offers two clear points of interest: the cave section along the northern approach and the expansive view from the highest point. This distinction is useful when planning your trip, as it separates the specific section of trail from the view at the summit.

The church and the village's architectural history

The parish church of Saint-Laurent was first mentioned in 1091; large parts of the present building date from later periods. Extensive work was carried out in 1841 and 1846 as part of the Sardinian restoration. The church therefore reflects several historical layers. It contains numerous notable paintings, dated 1647 and 1667. These include an oil painting executed in 1647 by Jacques Viany of Vence, depicting the deacons Saint-Laurent, Etienne and Vincent. A stone-carved holy water stoup bearing a face dates from the 12th or 13th century.

The Maison Ă  arcades on the village square dates from the 15th century; it was restored and completely plastered in the 19th century. Three oratories are still visible in the village: Saint-Jean, Sainte Claire and the Vierge Marie. A processional platform from the late 19th century is another testament to the village's history. The Maison Ă  arcades and Saint-Laurent offer different points of reference in time: one building dates from the 15th century, while the church was already mentioned in 1091 and also includes later building phases.

Village traditions and the Verticale Haut Vial

Community gathering places are also part of Revest-Les-Roches' history. The Chêne du Villar is over 800 years old and was designated an “Arbre Remarquable” by the A.B.R.E.S. association in 2012. It serves as the starting point for the Verticale Haut Vial, organised annually by the municipality and its associations. The communal bread oven was donated by twelve residents in 1932. Since then, it has been used both to meet residents' needs and by successive baker-grocers. The oven is also associated with the Fête du pain.
