The ski resort, hiking options and Chapelle Saint Erige each offer a different focus in Auron. When looking for a hotel in Auron, you can first decide whether winter sports, a hike through larch forests or a visit with historical significance is especially important to your trip. Specific details about routes and visiting times can help you weigh these interests.

Auron Ski Resort: Runs and Sectors

Auron ski resort has 135 kilometres of ski runs and comprises four sectors: Las Donnas, Sauma Longue, Demandols and Lieuson. The length of the runs describes the extent of the entire ski area, while the four names specify how it is divided into sectors. Sector names and operational assignments may change; check the current information for your season. The ski resort also includes snow parks for children and beginners. The individual facilities may change from one season to the next. If these areas are important to your trip planning, be sure to take the latest seasonal information into account.

Hikes to Cime de la Bercha and Les Balcons d’Auron

The hike to Cime de la Bercha takes four hours for the round trip and has an elevation change of plus/minus 628 metres. Check trail conditions before setting out and consider both details together when planning your time. The trail passes through larch forests with great botanical diversity; Cime de la Bercha offers sweeping views of Parc National du Mercantour. The hike thus combines botanical diversity along the trail with sweeping views at the destination.

Les Balcons d’Auron is a 2.5-kilometre circular trail with ten interpretation stops. The Les Balcons d’Auron viewpoint can be reached via Puy d’Auron. The two options differ in what you need to consider when planning: for Cime de la Bercha, the round-trip duration and elevation change are important; at Les Balcons, the circular route and interpretation stops take centre stage.

Chapelle Saint Erige: History and Guided Tours

Chapelle Saint Erige was built in the 13th century or the first half of the 14th century and has been a pilgrimage site since the Middle Ages. For travellers interested in culture, it brings together architectural history and a long-standing pilgrimage tradition. From 5 July to 26 August 2026, guided tours were offered on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 4:30 p.m. The meeting point was at the chapel, registration was through the Auron Tourist Office and the contribution was voluntary. Outside the season, visits are possible by request through the tourist office. If you are planning a visit, check dates and registration details in advance with the Auron Tourist Office.
