La Bollène-Vésubie: Nature, Outdoor Activities and Heritage
Accommodation in La Bollène-Vésubie
When considering La Bollène-Vésubie as a destination, you can choose to focus on forest landscapes, outdoor activities or culture. The activities differ considerably: a canyoning descent is suitable only for experienced participants, the Crêtes-de-l’Arpiha trail is family-friendly, and historic buildings tell stories of different eras. When planning, also take note of the relevant visiting conditions and seasonal offerings.
Nature and activities
The Riou de la Bollène canyoning route starts on the Turini road at an altitude of 833 metres. The descent has a high volume of water and includes numerous jumps and large natural slides. The route is suitable for experienced participants only; checking the latest safety information is part of planning.
The Crêtes-de-l’Arpiha trail is a family-friendly panoramic path along forest tracks at Col de Turini. Fir, spruce, Scots pine, beech and larch trees shape the woodland scenery along the way. Check trail conditions before setting out. The Vacherie de Mantégas is located on the route: from July to September, local cheese specialities such as Tomme and Brousse are accompanied by regular tastings. Confirm access and tastings locally.
A road cycling loop starts in the village of La Bollène-Vésubie and climbs steadily along a winding road to Col de Turini. This differs from the downhill activities at the Turini Camp d’Argent resort: for Luge tubing, you ride down a prepared slope in a large inflatable ring; Déval’Kart is an all-terrain kart designed for downhill runs. Both activities are seasonal. Ask about opening arrangements before travelling. For the cycling loop, also check road conditions and any cycling restrictions in force.
Les trois Marmites in the Vallée de La Vésubie is a river swimming spot with an emerald-green pool and a 15-metre-long natural water slide. Water conditions and safety can vary by season. Plan your visit with these changing conditions in mind.
Culture and history
The Église Saint-Laurent in La Bollène-Vésubie is a Baroque church with a single nave. It was completed in 1725 and consecrated in 1728. The church also houses a large-scale 18th-century painting by Garsini, which was classified in 1908. The dates place the construction and the artwork in different historical contexts.
The Musée d’entomologie du Dr Willy Hansen displays regional and exotic insect species and illustrates the diversity of the insect world. Admission is free, but a visit must be booked through the tourist information office in La Bollène-Vésubie. As visiting arrangements may change, confirm your booking with the office before your visit.
The Moulin à grain is opposite the village square. The grain mill was formerly used to grind wheat, maize and other grains into flour or semolina. Private guided tours are available on request; confirm the visiting arrangements locally in advance.
The Forteresse de l’Authion can also be explored via a marked historical trail. The surviving remains from the Second World War include the ruins of barracks near Cabanes Vieilles. The ruins may present hazards. The site’s history and the tangible traces of its military use are among the topics explored here.
Keep visiting conditions in mind
The seasonal tastings at the Vacherie de Mantégas, the museum’s visiting arrangements and guided tours at the Moulin à grain each require different preparations. It is also advisable to ask in advance about seasonal activities at the Turini Camp d’Argent resort. This helps you plan activities such as cycling, forest walks, cultural visits and water sports while keeping the relevant conditions in mind.
