Circular trails with different highlights
Les Balcons d’Auron is located at an altitude of 2,300 metres. From there, remarkable 360-degree panoramic views extend across the resort of Auron and the surrounding peaks. The 2.5-kilometre circular trail returns to its starting point and is accessible from both Saint-Étienne-de-Tinée and the resort of Auron. For orientation, the route and access points are two distinct aspects: it is a circular trail accessible from both places. Along the trail are ten subtly designed interpretation areas. These information stops complement the views of the resort and peaks.
Water trail and summer season
The Sentier de l'Eau is a circular trail in Saint-Etienne-De-Tinée. Its information panels cover water, irrigation channels, the history of fountains, architecture and nature. Along the banks of the Tinée, the route includes a landscaped stream with trout, a mill, wooden channels, waterwheels and water retention areas. Here, nature sits alongside constructed elements designed to manage the flow of water. The trail leads to a viewpoint and a waterfall and is suitable for everyone, including people with strollers. It is freely accessible during the summer season. Check the current access conditions before your visit. The viewpoint and waterfall offer different highlights.
Chapel, museum and monastery
The Chapelle Saint-Sébastien stands at the southern entrance to the village. It was built in the 15th century to protect against plague epidemics and was listed as a historic monument in 1914. Its frescoes were created by the Piedmontese masters Giovanni Baleison and Giovanni Canavesio around 1485 to 1490. The frescoes are therefore dated more precisely than the chapel’s construction.
The Musée des Traditions Stephanoises illustrates life in Saint-Etienne-De-Tinée in the past. While the chapel and its frescoes offer a connection to the history of art and architecture, the museum focuses on the local past. Individual guided tours are available on request; if you would like a tour, request one in advance.
The Couvent des Trinitaires was founded in the 17th century. It provides another historical reference point alongside the 15th-century chapel and adds to the variety of historical themes in the village.
