Saint-Gervais offers several themes to consider when planning your trip: a marked trail through wooded bocage landscapes, wetlands, sacred buildings, equestrian activities and a farm business selling products directly to customers. If you are looking for a hotel, consider which focus you want to shape your stay: walks, architectural and religious history, equestrian activities or local farm products. The offerings also differ in their specific conditions, which you can take into account when planning.

Trails through bocage and wetlands

A marked trail starts in the centre of Saint-Gervais and leads through wooded bocage landscapes to the Marais. The Marais is therefore the destination of this described route. If you want to include the trail in your day’s plans, check the trail conditions locally. This keeps your plans grounded in the actual state of the trail.

Another nature attraction is Parc de la Salamandre, where a wooden walkway leads to the wetland. In the wetland landscape, you can watch moorhens and spot frogs. The two attractions offer different experiences: the marked trail leads from the centre through the bocage to the Marais, while a wooden walkway connects the park with the wetland. As the layout of the site may change, check the current condition of the wooden walkway before your visit.

Sacred buildings and their history

Église Saint-Gervais was completed in 1894. Religious objects are also displayed in a case inside the church. If this exhibition is particularly important to you, check in advance whether it is still on display. Saint-Gervais cemetery offers a different historical point of interest: it is home to a Hosannière cross, erected around the 14th century. It is considered almost unique in the Vendée.

Grotte de Bourdevert is also among the sacred places described here. It was built in 1911 during a mission. The dates therefore refer to different things: an approximate date of origin for the cross, the completion of today’s church, and the year the grotto was built.

A pilgrimage to Notre-Dame des Bottons takes place every year in Saint-Gervais. If you want to plan your trip around this recurring event, confirm the current programme locally. The pilgrimage is a separate reason to visit, in addition to the historic buildings.

Farm products and equestrian activities

Ferme du Pas de l’Ile produces and processes Mulard ducks into traditional farm products. The farm offers direct sales from the farm, as well as free access to its shop and workshop. If you are planning a visit, check the latest visitor information in advance; the availability of individual products may change.

The intercommunal Haras des Presnes offers a different focus. It is an equestrian centre with hireable riding facilities and a riding school. If you want to include equestrian activities in your trip plans, check availability before booking. This allows you to weigh up the local options alongside the nature and culture attractions without treating different offerings as if they were the same.
