If you’re looking for a hotel in Sainte-Florence, you can tailor your trip to your specific interests: forests and hiking, cycling, or Chaissac-related culture. Different features matter when planning—for example, the length and trail markings of a walking route, cycling route access points, or the reservation requirement and duration of a workshop. These differences can help you align your travel plans with the focus you want for your stay.

Forest and walking trails

The ForĂŞt domaniale de l'Herbergement covers 350 hectares and is dominated by conifers, especially maritime pines. A 5 km walking trail marked in yellow offers a specific hiking option in the forest. This gives you two distinct starting points for planning: you can focus on the landscape as a nature destination or on the walking trail as a route.

The Sentier de l'Herbergement starts on the Route de Chauché, at the forest car park. Along the trail, walkers can discover Gaston Chaissac’s latrines and the Logis de La Boulaye. The starting point helps you locate the route, while these two named discoveries give it a cultural connection.

Cycling route and directions

The “Sur les pas de Gaston Chaissac” cycling route is 11 km long and has signs pointing out the places it passes through. It starts at the Sainte-Florence town hall, but you can also join it in the forest. This gives you two named starting points to consider when planning. Compared with the 5 km walking trail, the routes also differ in mode of travel and length.

A 3 km forest road runs through the ForĂŞt domaniale de l'Herbergement, connecting the D13 with the D137. If you use road names to find your way, these two roads are specific reference points for the route through the forest.

Chaissac: history and workshop

The Ancienne école was a former municipal public school where the Chaissac family lived from 1948 to 1961. The building type is therefore linked to a clearly defined period in the family’s history: its historical significance lies in its former role as a school and the family’s stay there.

At the Espace Gaston Chaissac, an art workshop for adults and children, led by an educational facilitator, follows the visit. The workshop requires a reservation; the visit and workshop together last 1.5 hours. If you’re planning this activity, remember to allow for both the required reservation and the total duration.

Choose a focus for your hotel search

You can choose from different focuses for your trip: a walking route with details on length and trail markings, a cycling route with information about the places it passes through, or a cultural theme with a historical connection and guided participation. If you’re looking for a hotel in Sainte-Florence, you can first consider which of these aspects you’d like to shape your stay.
