Chaville combines forest landscapes, circular hiking trails and historical themes. If you are looking for a hotel in Chaville, it helps to first consider what you want your stay to focus on: nature trails, culture and history, or a mix of all three.

Forest Landscapes and Circular Hiking Trails

Chaville has 156 hectares of woodland; forests cover half of the municipality. The Fausses-Reposes state forest is part of Chaville’s protected natural heritage. Its wildlife includes deer, foxes, martens and green woodpeckers, among other species. The Balade forestière Chavilloise leads to Étang d’Ursine, whose population of amphibians, including frogs and toads, is considered exceptional.

The circular hiking trails through the forests vary in length, elevation gain and stated difficulty. The easy circular route through Fausses-Reposes Forest is 5.9 kilometres long and has a total elevation gain of 107 metres. It starts and ends at Chaville Rive Droite station. The Balade forestière Chavilloise is a moderately difficult circular hike of 7.3 kilometres with 75 metres of elevation gain; it starts and ends at Chaville Rive Gauche station on SNCF Line N. The longer route has less elevation gain, but is rated moderately difficult, while the shorter one is considered easy.

Another route is the walk from the Étangs de Corot to Fausses-Reposes Forest. It starts at Chaville Rive Droite station and heads towards Ville-d’Avray. Along the way, it invites visitors to observe the vegetation and birdlife. The ponds in Fausses-Reposes Forest are portrayed as having been painted by Corot, giving the landscape a cultural connection as well as a natural theme.

Themed Trails and Historical Traces

The Chaviller Parcours découverte takes visitors through streets and lanes, parks and gardens, as well as Meudon Forest and Fausses-Reposes Forest. Its three themed maps are called “Heritage and History,” “Remarkable Trees” and “Art and Nature.” They direct attention to historical, botanical and artistic discoveries in Chaville.

Separate from this is the series of 16 historic boundary markers. It passes through different neighbourhoods and explores places, buildings and activities from various periods. The Porte de la Mare Adam is the last surviving remnant of a 17th-century estate. Another way of presenting history is the three-dimensional reconstruction of the Château jardin de Chaville, destroyed in 1764. It includes the château, outbuildings, menagerie, village and gardens.

Culture and Local Tradition

The Atrium de Chaville has an auditorium and cinema with 638 seats. Flexible spaces complement the facilities for exhibitions, seminars and conferences. The cultural offering therefore includes both a large auditorium and spaces for a range of event formats.

Viticulture is also part of the local character. A vineyard in Chaville has 350 vines on an 800-square-metre plot on the slope near the Rive droite railway line. The “Chavignon” is produced there each year. Residents help with the annual grape harvest, after which the wine is bottled. This recurring tradition is a distinct aspect of the town, alongside its forests, culture and historical traces.

Accrocamp ForĂŞt de Meudon is located in Chaville. Its courses are designed for people aged 3 to 99; a net area is available for younger children. This means the town also offers a leisure activity with a specifically stated age range.
