When looking for a hotel in Suresnes, it is worth first considering the themes that could shape your stay. Memorial history and social urban planning sit alongside walks and hikes on Mont-Valérien, as well as a local winegrowing tradition. Would you rather explore history and urban development, spend time outdoors or learn about winegrowing? The following details show the specific points of interest Suresnes offers for these different interests.

Memorial History and Urban Planning

On 17 and 18 June 1960, the remains of 16 people were transferred to the burial crypt, and the Mémorial de la France combattante was inaugurated by General de Gaulle. At Mont-Valérien, there is a permanent exhibition, “Résistance et répression, 1940–1944”. The dates serve different purposes: 1940–1944 appears in the exhibition title, while 1960 is the year the remains were transferred and the memorial inaugurated. This helps you distinguish the two historical reference points chronologically.

The Cité-jardins de Suresnes was created in the 1920s on the initiative of Henri Sellier. It is an example of social urban planning that brings together housing, green spaces and public facilities. The Cité-jardins has been awarded the “Patrimoine d’intérêt régional” label.

The MUS – Musée d’histoire Urbaine et Sociale de Suresnes – is a “Musée de France” dedicated to social urban planning in the interwar period. Taken together, the Cité-jardins as an example and the MUS as a museum focused on the subject offer two different ways to explore social urban planning.

A Guided Tour, Hike and Views at Mont-Valérien

The Mont-Valérien memorial is open Tuesday to Sunday and offers free guided tours lasting about 1.5 hours. Booking is possible and recommended. Check the current schedule before your trip.

“Le Mont-Valérien et ses alentours” is a moderate circular hike covering 6.7 km with a total ascent of 180 m. It starts and ends at the Suresnes Longchamps tram stop. You can also walk along paths on Mont-Valérien, including the Promenade Jacques-Baumel.

From the Terrasse du Fécheray at the foot of Mont-Valérien, you can enjoy views of Paris landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Panthéon and Montmartre. Your stay can therefore include a designated circular hike, walking paths and a viewpoint as different options to focus on.

Winegrowing and Wine Tradition

The Suresnes vineyard is planted with Chardonnay and Sauvignon. The Association du Clos du Pas Saint-Maurice regularly offers free cellar tours with the winemaker present. In connection with the Confrérie du vin de Suresnes, the Association organizes ceremonial induction ceremonies, which take place twice a year. The wine theme thus brings together the grape varieties mentioned, tours and a recurring ceremony.
