If you’re looking for a hotel in Garches, the focus of your stay can make all the difference: architecture and local history, cultural events, golf or walks each lead to different highlights. The places and activities are therefore best grouped by your interests rather than ranked. When planning, it also helps to distinguish between historic landmarks, recurring programmes and rare openings.

Church and Architecture

The present-day Church of Saint-Louis was built in 1876 by architect Blondel and contractor Tillet on the site of a church dating from 1298. The two dates therefore refer to different buildings at the same location. Almost six centuries separate the earlier church from the present building—a clear historical landmark if you want to explore Garches through its architecture.

Villa L’Ange Volant also makes its own distinctive impression: Gio Ponti designed it in 1927 for the Bouilhet family. It opens its doors only on rare occasions, so plan your visit around officially announced openings.

Culture with Different Visiting Hours

The Centre Culturel Sidney Bechet has two halls and welcomes visitors year-round, except during the summer break. Its programme includes events for the general public, young audiences and cinema screenings. Outside school holidays, conferences take place every Monday at 2:30 pm; the centre also hosts exhibitions by established artists. Monday is therefore a recurring date to bear in mind, while individual conference and exhibition dates may change. Check the current programme before making a special trip, and take the summer break into account.

The Fonds culturel de l’Ermitage regularly opens its doors to Garches residents, who can discover the venue and the artworks on display. It is not open continuously, so check the visiting arrangements before your visit. The Fonds also holds quarterly exhibitions at the family estate of Martine Boulart des Vallons. Individual exhibitions may vary; check the dates if you are planning your stay around them.

Golf and Architectural History

The Golf de Saint-Cloud has two 18-hole courses that extend across the municipalities of Garches, Rueil-Malmaison and Vaucresson. The Garches complex was built between 1922 and 1925 to designs by architect Albert Hébrard. The Eiffel Tower can be seen from hole No. 8 on the Green Course. The construction history refers to the complex, while the view relates to a specific point on the course—a useful distinction when considering the grounds and individual vantage points.

Walking and Cycling Routes

The municipal “Balades urbaines” programme offers walking and cycling routes through Garches, with maps available to download. The route information was published in 2026. Check before travelling to see whether the maps are accessible. The Coteau boisé de Garches offers a different experience: this wooded walking area has views of the Domaine national de Saint-Cloud and the Fausses-Reposes forest. The two options differ in focus: the municipal routes take you through the town on foot or by bike, while the Coteau combines a woodland setting with views of both landscapes.
