Ghisonaccia offers a variety of ways to enjoy a stay: the Urbinu Lagoon and its wetlands, the Pinia Forest, Vignale Beach, local markets and historic sites. Cycling, sports and water sports are also among the activities to consider when planning your trip. If you’re looking for a hotel in Ghisonaccia, it helps to first think about which of these sides of the town you want to shape your stay.

Lagoon, Wetlands and Pinia

The Urbinu Lagoon covers approximately 790 hectares and is protected by the Conservatoire du Littoral. Together with the associated wetlands, including the Marais de Piobi, it serves as a resting and feeding area for birdlife. This means the natural area described here includes not only the open lagoon but also the adjoining wetlands. Those interested in landscapes and birdlife will find a different focus here than in the town’s sports and beach offerings.

Pinia is a protected area covering 362.78 hectares in Ghisonaccia and is open to the public. Check access status before your visit. At Étang d’Urbinu, near the coastal wardens’ house, there is a car park and an outdoor information facility about the lagoon’s history and heritage. This puts its local history in focus alongside nature.

Pinia Forest borders Ghisonaccia Beach and is one of Corsica’s last maritime pine forests. This connection between forest and coast gives the area its distinctive landscape, while the two cannot be reduced to the same visitor experience.

Beach, Cycle Path and Activities

The D244, also known as the “route de la mer,” is four kilometres long and connects Ghisonaccia town centre with Vignale Beach. A cycle path runs alongside the four-kilometre road.

Pinia Forest has a fully signposted fitness trail and sports facilities for cyclists, runners and families. At Vignale Beach, a lifeguard station supervises the bathing area in July and August. The beach also has accessible facilities: an access mat, a Titalo beach wheelchair and toilets for people with reduced mobility. Confirm that the equipment is available before your trip.

At Ghisonaccia Beach, the Fun Orizonte base offers towed water sports, pedal boats and stand-up paddleboarding. Quad tours are also led by a BPJEPS-certified instructor. Check locally on the activities and their operating hours. This lets you distinguish seasonal beach and leisure options from the landscape features described as permanent.

Producers, Local History and Events

The Marché des Producteurs de Pays in Ghisonaccia brings together local producers and organic products. It offers seasonal local produce and regional specialities, while also giving visitors the chance to meet the producers directly. As it is seasonal, it is a good idea to check the local schedule before planning a visit.

The Saint Philippe Chapel, also known as the Ghisonaccia-Gare Chapel, was built in 1902 by residents of the Ghisonaccia-Gare and Saint Antoine area. A parish Mass is held there every Sunday morning at 9 a.m.; check the exact service time before your visit. Religious celebrations such as Saint Philippe, the Saint Antoine procession and Saint Jean are also held each year. If you’re visiting for a service or celebration, check the exact time or dates in advance. Neo-Byzantine frescoes were also created in Ghisonaccia in three phases between 1980 and 1985.

The “Urbinu in Festa” event was launched in 2016. Its programme includes educational and fun workshops about the lagoon’s biodiversity, the role of lagoons and the vulnerability of wetlands. An eighth edition took place in 2024; check locally for event dates. For information about stays in the area, you can contact the Corse Orientale Tourist Office. It is located in central Ghisonaccia; check opening hours before your visit.
