If you are looking for a hotel in Tox, you can get a sense of the area by focusing on specific travel interests: the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste and the Chapelle A Madonna di e Grazie offer different perspectives on architectural history, while the challenging Sentier Huit de Tox puts the focus firmly on hiking. The Capra Parc’s program adds goat farming and cheese to the mix. This makes it possible to weigh culture, outdoor activity and agriculture as separate interests.

Church architecture in Tox

Since 2 November 1976, the Église Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Tox has been protected as a Monument historique. The present-day ensemble comprises a main nave, a campanile and an attached chapel belonging to the brotherhood. The main nave is the central space of the church, while the campanile is the bell tower.

The present-day building was constructed in the 18th century in place of an earlier Romanesque building. Medieval stone slabs were reused in its construction. The 18th-century date and the slabs provide two points of reference for the church: the construction period of the present-day building and the age of the materials.

Sentier Huit de Tox: difficulty and waypoints

The Sentier Huit de Tox is classified as a difficult route. It has 917 metres of elevation gain and 908 metres of elevation loss. The difficulty rating and the separate elevation figures answer different questions: the first indicates the level of challenge, while the two figures show the elevation change by direction. Together, they provide a concrete basis for planning your own hike.

Tox is both the starting point and the destination of the route. The trail leads to Funtana A Reniccia, Bocca di u Vallu, the Chapelle Notre Dame des Graces, the Pagliaghju and the Pozzi Acqua Fredula. The route also offers an unobstructed panoramic view.

Chapelle A Madonna di e Grazie de Tox

The Chapelle A Madonna di e Grazie de Tox was built in 1830 by the missionary priest Ange Dominique Filippi. It sits at an elevation of more than 500 metres on Santa Brigitta hill. The chapel offers an exceptional panorama. The Sentier Huit also offers an unobstructed panoramic view: these descriptions of the views are tied to two different locations—the route and the site of the chapel.

Goat farming and cheese at Capra Parc

Capra Parc is a pastoral farm with Corsican goats and organic farmhouse cheese production. Educational sessions are held on Tuesday and Friday mornings by appointment. The program includes a farm tour, milking, a tasting and a trail.

Two perspectives help put this into context: the goats and cheese production describe the farm, while the morning sessions bring together specific parts of a visit program. The farm tour and milking introduce the work of the farm; the tasting relates to the cheese production. If you are considering this activity, arrange your visit in advance and take note of the stated days of the week.
