Several specific features of the area may influence your choice of Folelli as a destination: its four-kilometre-long beach, the banks and canals of the Fium’Alto, named trails, and its architectural and local history. Which of these matters most to you will depend on your travel interests.

Coast, Water and Natural Sites

Folelli’s beach stretches for 4 km; at one time, it was also called “Mer de la Castagniccia.” The banks and numerous canals of the Fium’Alto offer walkers a place to relax. The Cardiccia natural site lies at the southern entrance to the Folelli settlement.

The San Pellegrino beach is also near the Folelli district and south of Anghione beach. A wide stretch of sand and a sheltered setting characterize this part of the coast. Check current access conditions before visiting.

Trails and Outdoor Activities

The starting point of the Penta–Palancitellu hiking trail is 4 km from the intersection in central Folelli, in the direction of Orezza. This shady natural area leads hikers to the Fium’Altu and is home to diverse plant life. The starting point of the Fogata–Palustricu route is 3.5 km from the intersection in central Folelli, also in the direction of Orezza; the route is also suitable for mountain biking. In both cases, the distance refers to the location of the starting point, not the length of the route. Check trail conditions locally.

At Folelli beach, Allegria Longe Côte offers aqua-walking sessions lasting around an hour. They take place depending on the weather and arrangements with the provider. If you want to plan a session, confirm in advance whether it will go ahead on your chosen date. The Centre Equestre du Domaine d’Anghione offers rides in Folelli lasting at least an hour, as well as full-day rides. Booking details may change, so ask about current options in advance.

Church, Industrial History and the Place Name

The Christ-Roi Church in Folelli was inaugurated in 1934. A later expansion more than doubled its interior space. Another chapter in the area’s history is represented by the former gallic acid factory, which has been partly preserved as an industrial complex. The church and factory offer different historical perspectives, from church architecture to industrial use.

A local name also has a traditional interpretation: Folelli is said to derive from the Corsican expression “I Fulelli,” meaning will-o’-the-wisps. For a glimpse of today’s local products, the A Fiera boutique in the Semidei building welcomes visitors who want to discover and take home Corsican products.

Folelli in its Regional Context

The urban development of the municipality of Penta-di-Casinca is concentrated in the Folelli district, at the strategic junction of the T10, which connects Bastia with the south of the island along the east coast, and the road to the Castagniccia region. This transport context adds a regional perspective to the area’s features: Folelli is situated both on the coastal route and in relation to the road towards Castagniccia.
