Ocana combines a distinctive village landscape with hiking trails and historic sights. If you’re looking for a hotel for a trip here, these topics can help you choose what to explore based on your interests: Would you prefer a short hike, a more challenging route, or cultural stops as well? The different trail details and named cultural sites offer concrete points of reference.

Granite Houses and Views

Pink granite houses with stone porches and exterior staircases define the village landscape. There are also beautiful views of the Prunelli gorges. The sweeping panoramic view across the entire valley is another of Ocana’s landscape highlights. Its architecture and views offer different reasons to consider the village when planning your trip.

Choose Hikes by Duration and Difficulty

The Ocana–Bocca Mercujo route is a short, easy hike connecting Ocana with the Col de Marcujo. The easy route is 2.5 km long, takes one hour, and has about 230 m of elevation change; actual measurements may vary slightly on the ground. You can extend it with a five-minute, level walk to a signposted viewpoint opposite the l’Epica restaurant. If you plan this detour, check the latest trail and access information before setting out.

The Ocana–Punta Alcudina route takes more time: it is rated difficult, is 4.4 km long, and takes six hours. Compared with the one-hour, easy Mercujo hike, it is considerably longer and has a different difficulty rating. The start of the Alcudina route is in Ocana, on a dead-end road near the Le Soccer restaurant.

From the summit, the route offers panoramic views of the Gulf of Ajaccio. An orientation table also identifies numerous peaks in northern Corsica. How far these panoramas extend depends on the weather. Duration, difficulty, and views therefore offer different points of reference when comparing the routes.

Punta degli Mazzoni can be reached via a trail that runs 1.5 km southeast of Ocana. This trail is not recommended for children under 12. Another marked trail leads from Ocana to the ruins of a 14th-century castle. If you’d like to combine hiking with a historic destination, this provides a specific point of interest. Trail conditions and safety information may change; check them before your hike and take the age recommendation for Punta degli Mazzoni into account.

Churches, Chapels, and Rock Inscriptions

Cultural sites include the 16th-century Church of Saint Michel d’Archange. Ocana also has a chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony. East of the village is the Annunziata Chapel, which is also dedicated to this saint. The rock inscriptions of Orèse (Arèse) are another of the village’s sights. These offer a range of cultural points of interest: a historically dated church, two chapels dedicated to Saint Anthony, and a site with rock inscriptions. Which ones interest you most can help shape the cultural focus of your trip.

Summer Hikes with Music

In summer, A Piuma offers sunset hikes accompanied by music and Corsican products. This seasonal offering may change. If you’d like to include one of these hikes in your plans, check dates and availability in advance.
