Sari-D'orcino combines historic religious buildings with hikes of varying lengths and a village layout made up of several hamlets. The landscape and the paths through the village center also shape the visit. The various churches, chapels, and historic sites offer insights into different architectural styles and periods.

Hamlets, Landscape, and Village Center

The municipality spans several hamlets, located between 500 meters and 5 kilometers apart. Some date back to the founding of the village, while others originated during its reconstruction at the end of the 15th century. The history of settlement here stretches back to prehistoric times. In the village center, you can explore small squares, stairways, and granite passageways on foot.

Sari-D'orcino lies in a green landscape facing the Mediterranean, at an elevation of 350 to 460 meters. The surrounding area includes gardens, vineyards, orchards, citrus trees, pastures, and summer pastures.

Churches, Chapels, and Historic Sites

San Ghjuvan Battista is a Romanesque church dating from the 11th to 12th centuries and was the parish church of Cinarca. The present-day parish church of Saint-Martin originated as a Franciscan convent church, built in the first quarter of the 18th century. The church was enlarged and restored between 1873 and 1877. Two polychrome wooden statues from the 18th century are housed in San Martinu; they come from the former convent chapel.

The Chapel of Santa Reparata was built in the Middle Ages, reconstructed at the end of the 19th century, and restored in 1994. It is symbolically linked to the history of the valley. The pilgrimage to Santa Reparata takes place every year on October 8. If you are traveling for the occasion, check the current program in advance.

The ruins of Saint-Jean de Cinarca date from the 12th century. They were destroyed in the 15th century, restored in 1560, and finally abandoned at the end of the 16th century. They were classified as a historic monument by decree dated July 23, 1976. As their physical condition may change, it is advisable to check before visiting.

The Chapel of Santa Maria, dating from the early 19th century, stands in Acqua in ghjù. Bernard Vallée fully restored its interior in 2000. Notable features include an altar finished using a traditional faux-marble technique and a stylized Stations of the Cross in Bruges faience. Viewing these details adds an interior perspective to the comparison of the village's architectural histories.

Walks and Hikes

For a walk above the village, the easy Santa Reparata et la Croix route is a good option. The Col de Vergio–Punta San Damiano route is an easy, two-hour hike along a well-cleared path. The hike to Punta San Eliseo from Sari-D'orcino is different in terms of time and trail markings: it follows an unmarked route, takes six hours, covers 13 kilometers round trip, and involves about 1,000 meters of elevation gain. Maps and careful navigation are important on the unmarked route. Trail conditions and access may change. Check the current situation before setting out.

Vineyards and Getting There

Visits to the Clos d'Alzeto winery are available by reservation. A walk through the vineyards is also offered on site. If you would like to plan both, confirm the visit time and reservation in advance; visiting hours may change.

From Ajaccio, you can reach Sari-D'orcino by car via the D81 toward Sagone, then take an inland road. Parking is available along the road and around the village; parking conditions may change.
