When looking for a hotel in Bocognano, you can start by considering what you want your trip to focus on: scenery and walks, local history, or chestnuts. The following places and routes offer specific points of reference. They range from a route through a beech forest with valley views to a museum, a mill, and a fair.

Scenery and route

The Intervillages Vizzavona–Bocognano route passes through high-altitude beech forests and offers views of the Gravona Valley and the Monte Renoso and Monte d’Oro massifs. It leads to Bocognano’s town hall. The endpoint and the scenery answer different questions: the town hall pinpoints the destination in the village, while the beech forest, valley, and massifs shape the journey along the way. When planning your trip, you can therefore take into account both the scenery along the route and its specifically named destination.

Mill and walks

Below Bocognano, U Mulinu di l'Orsu is a place for walks in both summer and winter. The mill has two millstones powered by the river: one for wheat and one for chestnuts. The walking spot and the mill’s equipment provide two distinct points of reference. Unlike the route, which ends at the town hall, U Mulinu focuses on spending time outdoors in both seasons and on its two grinding products. The chestnut theme is not the only one represented at the mill: alongside the stone intended for chestnuts, there is one for wheat.

Cascade du Voile de la Mariée

To reach Cascade du Voile de la Mariée, take the D27 towards Bastelica. After about 3.5 km from the roundabout at the entrance to Bocognano, you will reach Pont de Salicio; parking is available on the right after the bridge. Access to the river at the cascade, including bathing, is prohibited because of the risk of falling rocks. When planning your trip, take both the road directions and the clear restriction on river access into account.

Museum and art

The U Palazzu ecomuseum is dedicated to traditional life in the Gravona Valley, particularly in Bocognano. Napoleon Bonaparte commissioned the building as a summer house in the village where his grandmother was from. The museum’s subject and the building’s history concern different aspects: the museum focuses on life in the valley, while the building’s history refers to the commission for a summer house. Another cultural point of interest is the painting “tableau: sainte Lucie” in the church of Sainte-Lucie in Bocognano. Alongside the museum’s subject, you can therefore find a specific work of art at its named location.

Chestnut fair and producers

The Fiera di a Castagna has been held since 1982 and showcases producers from all over Corsica. Together with the mill’s chestnut millstone, it offers two different ways to explore the topic: the fair focuses on producers, while U Mulinu di l'Orsu has millstones for chestnuts and wheat. The fair gives the chestnut theme a regional context; the mill brings it to life through its two different millstones. The showcase of producers thus complements the insight into the mill’s equipment, without the two places sharing the same focus.
