Discover Levie: Culture and Trails
Accommodation in Levie
Levie brings together archaeological sites, village heritage and trails with different themes. The Musée de l’Alta Rocca is located in the heart of the village. Levie is also crossed by numerous trails, including the Mare a mare Sud. When planning, it is worth keeping the respective trail highlights and time estimates in mind.
Trails, water and village history
The “Com'è l'acqua pendi – La mémoire de l'eau” trail offers a themed route. It follows the water through Levie and passes through the village’s rich cultural heritage. The trail description, updated in December 2024, describes it as very easy and gives its length as 1.7 kilometres. Check current trail conditions locally before setting out. The Mare a mare Sud is another of the many trails that cross Levie.
The restored Lavoir de Levie also brings the history of water management to life: it represents traditional village water management and the shared use of water resources. This gives the water theme a concrete historical dimension. The waterside trail and the washhouse highlight different aspects of the village’s heritage; they should not be understood as the same stop.
Cuccuruzzu and Capula
The well-maintained circular trail to the archaeological sites of Cuccuruzzu and Capula visits both sites in turn. It passes through Mediterranean woodland in a protected setting. The Casteddu de Cuccuruzzu is one of the most important Bronze Age monumental sites in the Alta Rocca; the period is given as the 2nd to 1st millennium. The Casteddu de Capula was inhabited from the Bronze Age and later became a focal point during the feudal period. The two historical associations have different emphases: Cuccuruzzu is particularly associated with the Bronze Age, while the feudal period is also significant for Capula.
At the Cuccuruzzu site, the Torra was probably used for storing and processing food. This likely interpretation draws attention not only to the monumental remains but also to practical aspects of life at the time.
Trail times for planning
Allow about one hour of walking time and approximately two hours for a complete visit to the circular trail at Cuccuruzzu and Capula. The stated duration for the “Com'è l'acqua pendi” trail is about one hour and 30 minutes. These estimates are defined differently: for the archaeological circular trail, walking time and a complete visit are explicitly distinguished. Take this into account when planning your time rather than comparing the figures as equivalent walking times. Also check current local conditions for the archaeological circular trail.
Museum and crafts in Levie
The Musée de l’Alta Rocca is located in the heart of the village. Also in Levie is the Coutellerie de l'Alta Rocca – Atelier du Lotus. There, visitors can discover the work of local craftspeople through exceptional handmade pieces produced in keeping with the traditions of blacksmithing. Check opening arrangements before visiting. Alongside the archaeological sites and trails, the museum and traditional crafts offer distinct cultural themes to explore during a stay in Levie.
