Vosne-Romanée is one of the 40 municipalities in the central zone of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne. This designation puts the Climats at the heart of the area's wine-growing heritage. Other themes include architecture, historic wine-growing sites, and tasting and cooking experiences. When planning your trip, you can consider whether you want your stay to focus primarily on architectural history, a particular wine experience or a route.

Wine Villages and Tastings

Visitors can stop at the Grand Cru parcel of Romanée-Conti, where a plaque and a cross serve as landmarks. The Maison Romane is another point of reference for tastings: this 16th-century building now houses a high-quality tasting room. The Vosne Tasting Club is also located in the Maison Romane. It has two vaulted cellars, a dining room and a lounge for wine tastings and brunches. Check the club's reservation details before your trip. Domaine Armelle et Bernard Rion offers a guided cellar tour, where visitors can discover the estate's wines, as well as an introduction to truffle cooking. As these visitor experiences may change, check before your trip whether the cellar tour and truffle-cooking introduction are available on your dates. You can therefore choose between different focuses for your itinerary: tastings and brunches at the Maison Romane, or a cellar tour and truffle cooking at Domaine Rion.

Architecture of the Église Saint-Martin

The Église Saint-Martin is believed to have been built in the 13th century; it was rebuilt towards the end of the 18th century. Its floor plan is in the shape of a Latin cross. A square bell tower stands on the east façade, topped by a polygonal slate spire. Because of the lie of the land, the church faces west rather than east for practical reasons. The Latin-cross floor plan describes the shape of the building as seen from above, while its orientation indicates its compass direction. The location of the bell tower and the church's orientation are also distinct architectural features: the tower is on the east façade, even though the church faces west.

Further Traces of the Village's History

La Goillotte is a former cuverie (wine cellar) belonging to the Princes of Conti, adding a former wine-making function to the village's history. At the Château de Vosne-Romanée, the focus is on a different period: it was restored in the 19th century and is now owned by the Comte Liger-Belair wine estate. Vosne-Romanée thus features both historic wine-growing sites and buildings whose histories have been shaped by rebuilding or restoration.

The Route des Grands Crus and a Circular Route

Vosne-Romanée is a stop on the Route des Grands Crus. A cycling and wine circular route passes through the UNESCO World Heritage Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne and follows the Route des Grands Crus through the Côte de Nuits. The first description places the village on the route; the second describes the circular route through the Climats and the Côte de Nuits. Alongside visits to historic buildings and wine experiences, these routes offer different ways to choose the focus of your stay in Vosne-Romanée.
