Kostolné lies between two mountain ranges, and the Kostolník stream flows through the municipality. This destination therefore combines a clear connection to the landscape with named natural and cultural sites. When planning your visit, you can consider trails, recreation centres and evidence of local history as different interests.

Landscape and trails

The Dubník I and Dubník II water reservoirs lie in the upper reaches of the stream. The Kostolník flows through Kostolné, while the two reservoirs are located upstream. These different locations help you find your way between the watercourse in the village and the reservoirs in its upper reaches.

Numerous hiking trails to Veľká Javorina run through the cadastral area of Kostolné. There are two different cycling connections: the cycle route below Javorina links Vaďovce and Stará Turá, while a short yellow circular cycle route connects the Dubník recreation centre with Kostolné. This makes it possible to distinguish a route between two places from a short loop. Route conditions may change; check them before your trip.

The Dubník I and Dubník II recreation centres offer opportunities for summer and winter sports. Both seasons are therefore suitable for sporting activities. If you are planning a specific activity, check the current conditions in advance. A detailed tourist map is available for the surrounding area.

Culture and history

The Evangelical church stands in the centre of Kostolné. Dating from 1785, it is a landmark of the municipality. Another link to the municipality’s history is the Pamätný dom. It developed from a house that had long been uninhabited and fallen into disrepair, and preserves its traditional character. The church and the Pamätný dom offer different points of interest: one is a landmark with a precise date, the other a place connected to the municipality’s history that grew out of an older house.

The Hrubá skala rock formation lies on the boundary between the municipal territories of Kostolné and Hrašné. Its history is also connected to a specific period: in 1848–1849, it was a meeting place for Pastor Trokan, J. M. Hurban and Ľudovít Štúr. Thus, landscape and local history come together at this named site.

An older chapter of history is represented by a cremation burial ground of the Lusatian culture, dating from the Late Bronze Age and located in Kostolné. Cultural traditions were also associated with different regions: the so-called Lubina folk costume style was worn in Kostolné, while the Myjava folk costume style was common in the Kopanice region. These references span very different periods: the burial ground points to the Late Bronze Age, while the meetings at Hrubá skala took place in 1848–1849. In specialist terminology, the term refers to a burial site where the dead were laid to rest after cremation.
