Lúka lies in the foothills of the Považský Inovec Mountains, near the left bank of the Váh River. The built-up area is surrounded by landscapes with protected habitats and historic buildings. If you are looking for a hotel in Lúka, you can plan your trip around these different highlights: nature reserves, the history of Tematín Castle, or the architecture of the manor house in the village.

Nature Reserves and Landscape

The Tematínska lesostep National Nature Reserve covers 59.67 hectares and lies at an elevation of 280 to 475 metres in Lúka, in the Nové Mesto nad Váhom District. It was designated in 1976 and is located between the village and Tematín Castle. It protects remnants of thermophilous oak forests and extremely xerothermic rocky grasslands—that is, open rocky habitats shaped by heat and dry conditions.

The reserve is home to rare plants such as Onosma visianii, Dianthus praecox subsp. lumnitzeri, Jurinea mollis and Dictamnus albus. Rare animals are also part of the biodiversity described here, including Saga pedo, the European nightjar (Caprimulgus europaeus) and the European green lizard (Lacerta viridis), which has a large population there. The plant and animal species give Tematínska lesostep its own natural character, adding specific examples to its protected oak forests and rocky areas.

The Kňaží vrch Nature Reserve is larger, covering 150.94 hectares across Lúka, Modrová and Stará Lehota in the Nové Mesto nad Váhom District. It was designated in 1988 and lies at an elevation of 340 to 639 metres. In the Považský Inovec Mountains, between the summit of Kňažieho vrchu and the surrounding villages, it preserves the best-conserved remnants of thermophilous oak forests with downy oak (Quercus pubescens). While Tematínska lesostep is associated with its location between Lúka and the castle, the Kňaží vrch area extends across several villages.

A viewing platform near the main tower of Tematín Castle offers views of the southern part of the Považský Inovec Mountains and the northern edge of the Danubian Lowland. The view stretches from Nové Mesto nad Váhom through Piešťany to Hlohovec. Alongside the habitats described here, the broader landscape is therefore also central to the natural and cultural highlights around Lúka.

Tematín Castle and the Manor House

Tematín Castle is one of the castles that secured Hungary’s western border in the Považí region. Thanks to its lines of sight to Čachtice and Beckov Castles, it also served as an important signal castle. These historic roles give the castle a different connection to the area than the protected habitats: its story is one of border security and communication between castles.

In the village stands Lúka’s late Renaissance manor house, dating from 1674. It was built on the model of a fortified Renaissance manor house with four corner towers. The elongated, two-storey block building has prominent corner towers, and the interior layout is also Renaissance in style. The manor house park contains a Baroque chapel dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene. The building’s form, towers and interior offer several ways to understand the manor house’s architecture, while the chapel is a distinct architectural feature in the park.

Nine participants took part, and the event was accompanied by music from the group Kysucká heligonka. This describes the event in 2023, not an annually recurring occasion.
