Krajné between the Kopaničiarska region and the Little Carpathians
Accommodation in Krajné
Krajné between the rolling hills and the Little Carpathians
Krajné lies in the southeastern part of the Myjava Hills, on the border with the Little Carpathians. Its defining feature is the widely scattered settlement pattern typical of the Kopaničiarska region: the municipality has 44 scattered Kopaničiarska settlements. The character of the area can therefore also be understood through the distribution of settlements across the landscape. For a stay focused on rural areas, this settlement pattern is a characteristic point of reference.
The Kopaničiarska settlement pattern is linked to traditional forms of land management. The ecosystems that developed over centuries as a result are considered particularly important ecologically. Settlement patterns, agriculture and landscape thus form a shared theme that gives context to Krajné beyond its individual buildings. If you are interested in cultural landscapes, this connection offers a specific focus for your stay.
Hiking trails along different edges
Two marked trails with different endpoints and locations are of interest to hikers. The blue-marked Čachtický hrad–Šípkové trail runs along the southeastern edge of the municipality of Krajné, over the ridge of the Čachtické Karpaty. At the northwestern edge of the cadastral area, the green-marked route between Mohyla pod Bradlom and Stará Turá passes through the traditional Myjava Kopaničiarska cultural landscape. The routes can be distinguished by their colours, endpoints and locations: one runs southeast over a ridge, while the other runs northwest through the cultural landscape.
Churches and local cultural history
The Gothic Roman Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel was built around the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. Narrow, steep stone stairs lead to its tower. The Evangelical Church of Krajné was consecrated in 1784. The two churches offer different points of reference in time: the Catholic church’s construction date is approximate, while the Evangelical church’s year of consecration is specified precisely.
Another cultural feature is Krajnianska čipka, a bobbin-made tulle lace. Its tradition in the Myjava Hills dates back to the 1880s. At that time, two lace-makers from Vamberk in the Czech Republic taught women in Krajné to make lace using Flemish and Vamberk patterns. Krajnianska paličkovaná čipka developed its own distinctive motifs and became a defining decorative element of the festive and ceremonial clothing worn by girls and women. This lace therefore highlights both the craft tradition and its role in festive dress.
Krajnianska prúdnica is also part of local event traditions: the Krajné Volunteer Fire Brigade holds an annual afternoon of competition and entertainment. If you would like to include this event in your travel plans, check the event dates in advance. A historical point of reference is Pochovávanie basy: on 5 March 2011, this carnival ceremony in Krajné was a long-established social event.
Regional connections
Krajné is connected to the regionally important Class II road No. 499 between Myjava and Piešťany.
