Podkylava offers several themes for a trip: cycling routes to the Pávičie viewpoint, routes linking named places, Biofarma Charolais, and a layered local history. If you are looking for hotels in Podkylava, these themes can help you narrow down the focus of your stay. Your focus could range from a short cycle route to the viewpoint to rural life or historical traces in the town.

Cycling routes to the viewpoint and between places

The locally marked yellow cycle route MC01 runs from the road behind the cemetery to the Pávičie viewpoint and is about 600 metres long. A completed educational trail also leads to the viewpoint from the same road, running parallel to the cycle route. This section therefore has both a marked cycle route and an educational trail. Comparing the two routes, you can see that they share a starting point and a destination.

The green-marked cycle route C5325 runs between Podkylava, Polianka, and Sládkovci and is 7.8 kilometres long. The blue-marked C2302 follows a different route: it runs from Plavecký Peter via Jablonica to Hrachovište and is 45 kilometres long in total. The three routes therefore differ considerably in their stated lengths and courses: MC01 leads to the viewpoint, while C5325 and C2302 each connect several named places. When planning your trip, you can first decide whether you want to focus on a short route to a named destination or a longer connection between places.

Agriculture and experiences at the biofarm

Biofarma Charolais is an agrotourism facility in Podkylava. It combines organic cattle farming with horse breeding, as well as agrotourism and recreation. The biofarm includes a gallery of historic agricultural machinery and also offers horseback riding. Its themes range from farming itself to historic machinery and an activity involving horses.

The annual opening of the grazing season is also among the visitor activities: visitors can learn about life on a farm. If this recurring event is of particular interest, check the event date before your trip. This lets you include the agricultural theme in your plans without conflating it with the cycling routes or the town’s history.

Local history and preserved houses

The oldest written mention of Podkylava dates from 1709. The historic settlement consists of two parts: Podkylava and Zbehy. Bobbin lace-making is also part of the local history. Women in Podkylava practiced this demanding craft until the mid-20th century. These historical themes therefore include both the settlement’s development and a local craft tradition that continued until the middle of the last century.

Several original houses have been preserved in Podkylava. These include 19th-century clay houses, some of which still have thatched roofs. These buildings add an architectural trace from a specific period to the written historical record. The landscape also has a long history of change: the Podkylava area in the Myjavská pahorkatina was forested before human settlement. This began to change as settlement progressed.

Landscape and the Pávičie viewpoint

The Vyhliadka Pávičie is designated as an existing recreational area with development potential. Together with the Pávičie viewpoint, a destination on the local cycle route and the parallel educational trail, Pávičie is one of Podkylava’s named landscape features. When choosing the focus of your trip, you can consider this theme alongside the longer cycling routes, the biofarm, and the town’s historical traces.
