Nature and cultural history are among the defining themes of Brestovec. The nature trail, Kopanice landscape, preserved folk buildings and M. R. Štefánik Tunnel each offer a different perspective. The railway station and the reservable multi-purpose sports field are also useful for getting around locally.

Nature Trail, Cycling Route and Landscape

The Brestovec–Stará Myjava–Topolecká nature trail is 18.298 km long. Its nine information stations cover the natural wealth, fauna and flora of the Myjava Hills and the Biele Karpaty Protected Landscape Area (CHKO Biele Karpaty). If you are interested in a nature-focused excursion, the route and its information stops bring these elements together.

The blue Brestovec–Stará Myjava cycling route offers a different perspective. It is about 15 km long, runs through Kopanice and offers views of the surrounding countryside. In terms of distance, it is more compact than the nature trail; the focus also differs: cycling and Kopanice are central to the cycling route, while the nature trail focuses on its nine stations and nature-related themes. You can take both the approximate distance and the type of excursion into account when planning.

The Kopanice landscape around Brestovec consists of scattered settlements, meadows and forests that have preserved their traditional character. Forests of the White Carpathians are widespread in the northern part of Brestovec’s cadastral area. They provide habitats for numerous animal and plant species and are used for tourism and recreation. Southeast of Brestovec lies the reservoir on the Myjava, where extensive woodland has been preserved. These parts of the landscape offer nature enthusiasts different points of interest during a stay.

Tunnel and Folk Architecture

The M. R. Štefánik Tunnel lies in Brestovec’s cadastral area and is 2,987 metres long. The Tunel generála Štefánika is a technical monument dating from the First Czechoslovak Republic. A memorial plaque at the tunnel entrance commemorates the people who lost their lives during its construction. The tunnel’s length, technical history and memorial each represent a different aspect of this structure and its local significance.

Several original folk houses and farm buildings from the 19th century have also been preserved in Brestovec. The two types of buildings reflect domestic life and agricultural work; together, they complement the tunnel’s technical history with another chapter in the area’s building history. You can include these themes in your plans if, alongside landscapes and routes, the history of the place matters to you.

Events and Practical Information

Stavanie mája is a recurring spring tradition in Brestovec. An event was announced for 30 April 2026. “Futbalové podujatie na Brestovci” was scheduled in July 2023, 2024 and 2025. If you would like to combine your stay with an event, check the dates for the year you plan to travel.

Brestovec has a railway station on the Nové Mesto nad Váhom–Veľká nad Veličkou railway line. If you are travelling by train, it is advisable to check the timetables for your travel date. The multi-purpose sports field can be reserved in advance for individual and team sports. The Poľana observation tower was removed on 17 August 2022, so do not plan to visit it as an existing viewpoint.
