Bíňa can be explored through its natural landscapes along the Hron and its rich sacred and historical heritage. The river, adjacent floodplain forests, a protected loess profile and several historic buildings give a visit a range of thematic focuses. When planning your stay, you can first consider whether landscapes and geology or churches and local history are your main interests. These interests also offer a starting point for your search for a hotel in Bíňa.

Natural landscapes along the Hron

The Hron River and the adjacent floodplain forests in the cadastral area of Bíňa belong to the Natura 2000 site of European importance, SKUEV0820 Dolný tok Hrona. The river and floodplain forest are therefore a protected natural feature of the area. For travellers interested in landscapes and nature conservation, this is a defining aspect of Bíňa.

On the bank of the Hron lies the Bíňanský sprašový Profil, a protected natural monument measuring 5 to 10 metres in height. It is considered a rare feature in the Hron catchment. The natural landscape can thus be explored both through the river and floodplains and through the profile’s geological distinction.

Bíňanský rybník is also designated as a nature reserve. Its protected status serves to protect fauna, flora, habitats and landscapes. While the reference to the profile highlights a single geological feature, the purpose of protecting Bíňanský rybník encompasses several aspects of nature.

Historical traces in Bíňa

Remains of fortifications are visible on the northern edge of Bíňa. The village also contains the ruins of a monastery built in the 12th century and destroyed by the Turks. The visible remains of the fortifications and the monastery ruins represent different aspects of local history: the former are remnants of a fortified structure, while the latter tell the story of a religious building.

The Calvary of Bíňa lies north of the municipality, in the former moat between two rings of the outer medieval earth rampart. Its location places the complex within the historic fortification structure.

Churches and cultural heritage

The two-towered Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady was built before 1217. It preserves Romanesque and early Gothic elements considered to be of European importance. Historically, the church was part of a Premonstratensian monastery. The date of construction, surviving architectural elements and the monastery’s history each give the Church of Our Lady its own historical significance.

The Chapel of the Twelve Apostles has its own architectural history: originally a Romanesque rotunda, it was renovated in the Baroque style after 1755. The rotunda has twelve semicircular niches inside, symbolising the twelve apostles. Rare wall paintings depict a group of apostles; the frescoes are uniquely Romanesque-Byzantine in style.

The unique folk costume and cultural traditions of the “communities with short skirts,” preserved in Bíňa, are also part of its cultural heritage. Studnička (Kutacska) is a pilgrimage spring in the cadastral area of Bíňa. These traditions and the pilgrimage spring broaden the view beyond architectural history to include other aspects of local culture.
