Komjatice brings together a range of attractions for a stay: Štrkáreň, a large body of water; a protected park; religious buildings; and a nature reserve. If you are looking for a hotel, you can start by choosing your location based on the focus of your trip: relaxation by the water, parks and outdoor activities, architectural history or nature. The features below show how these options differ.

Štrkáreň Komjatice: Swimming and Fishing

Štrkáreň Komjatice is a 45-hectare body of water with islands and a maximum depth of 18 metres. Its area, depth and islands describe different aspects of the water: 45 hectares refers to its extent, 18 metres to its maximum depth, while the islands shape its appearance. Conditions at Štrkáreň are suitable for swimming; visitors can also purchase a guest fishing permit. This means two different interests can be enjoyed at the same body of water. When planning your trip, you can therefore consider whether swimming, fishing or both will shape your stay in Komjatice.

The Castle Park and Its Features

Komjatice Castle Park is a protected site covering an area of 64,929 m²; it was placed under protection in 1984. The area and the year it was protected refer to different aspects: the number of square metres describes the size of the site, while the year marks its protection status. The park offers residents and visitors opportunities for relaxation, entertainment and short leisure activities. Its facilities include a children’s playground, a pavilion, a fountain and benches along the paths. A plane tree in the park has a trunk circumference of 930 cm at breast height. This measurement refers to the trunk’s circumference at the specified height, not its diameter. Alongside the features of the park as a whole, there are therefore specific facilities and an individual natural feature to see.

Churches and Calvary: Comparing Architectural History

The Church of St. Elizabeth is a late Baroque building, constructed between 1751 and 1755 on the site of an older medieval church. This makes it possible to distinguish chronologically between the medieval predecessor and the late Baroque building. The church has three altars and a Rococo pulpit dating from the late 18th century. Its furnishings therefore also include an element from a later period than the construction of the church.

Komjatice Calvary offers another historical comparison: it includes a five-figure Crucifixion group with the Holy Sepulchre, dating from the mid-18th century. By contrast, the Stations of the Cross at the Calvary date from around the turn of the 20th century. These two dates show that different parts of the Calvary relate to different periods. Another religious building, the Church of St. Peter and Paul, is an important architectural monument and is included on the list of immovable monuments.

Nature Reserve and Biodiversity

Kňazova jama–Torozlín is a protected nature reserve in the Komjatice area. It is home to 62 plant species; its fauna also includes the European pond turtle, whose occurrence in Slovakia is unique. Unlike the castle park, with its named facilities, the focus here is on plant and animal life. Komjatice therefore offers two distinct natural attractions: the park and the protected nature reserve. Together with the religious buildings, they provide a choice of different focuses for your stay without turning them into a single destination.
