Oravsky Biely Potok lies in the valley of the Studený potok in the Skorušina Mountains. There are two distinct points of interest to help you plan your trip: local building and craft history, and a cycling route that passes through the village. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether you would mainly like to learn about the village’s history or go mountain biking.

Valley, Road and Getting Your Bearings

State Road 2/584 runs through the village. It provides a clear reference point for finding your way when you arrive. If you are driving, check current road conditions in advance.

Church and Cultural Heritage

Kostol sv. Štefana, kráľa is a single-nave church in the Neoclassical style. It was built between 1797 and 1800; its interior furnishings are predominantly Baroque. The two style terms refer to different aspects: Neoclassical describes the architectural classification, while Baroque describes the furnishings. It is therefore worth considering the church building and its interior separately.

The local cultural heritage includes 13 stone crosses with statues of saints. Access may vary from cross to cross; check access to the specific site before planning a visit. The folk group FS Osľárik is also part of the village’s cultural life: it preserves the folk traditions of Oravsky Biely Potok.

Stone-Carving Tradition in the Orava Region

Oravsky Biely Potok developed into one of the centers of stone-carving production in the Orava region. In connection with the stone-carving craft, the village was first mentioned as a center of millstone production in 1728. The local tradition also included ring-shaped well rims, called “címere,” which measured up to two meters across. Millstones and well rims show two different products of this stone-carving work. The 1728 mention predates the construction of the church.

The Cesta Kameňa project presented the stone-carving tradition and artifacts of Oravsky Biely Potok as cultural heritage; its implementation period was scheduled for March to September 2026. The project planned to restore four stone crosses from the 18th and 19th centuries between March and August 2026. It also planned an accessible route to the cemetery for visitors with reduced mobility and four bilingual information boards at the entrance. Before your visit, check whether the work planned for 2026 was carried out.

Cycling Route Through the Village

The Podbiel–Ťatliakovo jazero cycling route passes through Oravsky Biely Potok and is suitable for mountain bikes.
