Sučany combines trails in the built-up area with cultural landmarks and landscape attractions. When planning your visit, you can focus on outdoor activities, architectural history or nature. The Sučiansky historicko-náučný chodník offers a specific starting point for exploring on foot or by bicycle; the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the pillory add historical highlights. Sučianska Skala and Sučianska dolina offer opportunities for climbing, scenic views and hiking.

Trails in Sučany

The Sučiansky historicko-náučný chodník is located in the built-up area of Sučany. It is a linear trail open year-round and can be used on foot or by bicycle. It is 3 km long, with an elevation gain of 24 m. The three kilometres describe the trail’s length, while the 24 metres add its vertical dimension. These figures help you understand the route without equating its length with its elevation gain. From Sučany, there are also opportunities to hike to Sučianska dolina: there, the valley itself is the hiking destination, rather than a trail in the built-up area.

Church and Historical Monuments

The Roman Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is the oldest architectural monument in Sučany. It was built in the last quarter of the 13th century and was originally Early Gothic. In 1964, it was declared a national cultural monument. The term Early Gothic describes its original style, while the construction date places it in its historical context. Its designation as a national cultural monument came much later. The Sučany pillory adds another historical reference to the area’s cultural heritage: this cultural monument dates from the first half of the 19th century.

Sučianska Skala and Sučianska dolina

There are several established climbing routes on Sučianska Skala. From the upper areas, you can enjoy views of the Great and Little Fatra. Climbing routes and scenic views appeal to different interests: one offers an activity, while the other looks out over two mountain ranges.

The Pod Rígľom nature reserve is located at the entrance to Sučianska dolina. It covers 14.23 ha and is subject to the fifth level of protection. The area figure describes the size of the reserve, while the protection level indicates its classification. Biely potok flows through Sučianska dolina.

Water Activities and Cycling

Lake Ontário is used for boating and is also an attractive area for anglers. These are two water-based activities alongside the hiking and cultural attractions. Several cycling routes can be reached from Sučany; the Sučiansky historicko-náučný chodník can also be used by bicycle.
