Vricko lies in the Lúčanská part of the Malá Fatra. The Vríca stream flows through Vrícko, while a church, log houses, a park, and several memorial sites also shape the village’s history. This gives you two distinct focuses to choose from when planning your trip: a marked hiking route to Kľacký Waterfall and historical connections explored through buildings and memorial sites.

Nature in Vrícko

Kľacký Waterfall is 30 metres high and is protected as a national natural monument in Vrícko. The marked route from Vrícko follows the green trail and takes about two hours. These details answer different planning questions: 30 metres describes the waterfall’s height, while about two hours is the walking time to reach it.

While the waterfall is protected as a national natural monument in Vrícko, the Kľak protected area covers the cadastral territories of Vrícko and Fačkov. It preserves valuable rock and forest plant communities. A named natural attraction and a protected area whose significance lies in preserving these plant communities are therefore both found here.

Getting to Vrícko

By car, you can reach Vrícko from Kláštor pod Znievom, Prievidza, or Rajec via Kľačno and Vrícke sedlo. Bus services to Vrícko operate on the Martin–Kláštor pod Znievom–Vrícko and Turčianske Teplice–Kláštor pod Znievom–Vrícko routes. Both routes list Kláštor pod Znievom as an intermediate stop; Martin and Turčianske Teplice are their respective starting points. If you are travelling by bus, check the current timetable before departure.

Church and historic buildings

Kostol sv. Bartolomeja was enlarged in 1787–1788 from an earlier Renaissance church. Its side altar dedicated to the Virgin Mary dates from 1715. The bell tower on the church grounds dates from the 19th century and has three bells. The dates mark several distinct periods: the altar predates the enlargement, while the bell tower belongs to a later century.

Vrícko is also home to three-room log houses from the 19th century. Alongside the dated features of the church, they provide another concrete example of the village’s historic buildings.

Park and memorial sites

The park commemorating the 20th anniversary of the liberation was established in 1965 on the site of the ruins of four houses dating from the Second World War. Its purpose and location bring together two aspects of local history: the anniversary of the liberation and the story of the site with its four house ruins.

A monument to three victims executed in 1944 was erected in the nearby Nitra Valley in 1962. Below Reváň, a monument commemorates 17 unknown heroes who fell in December 1944. There is also a monument in the local cemetery to 17 unknown heroes who fell in December 1944 and were buried there. It is registered as a monument in the “mass grave” category.
