Nature and activities
Lysec is a national nature reserve. From Belianska dolina and Jasenská dolina, a moderate hike leads to Lysec at an elevation of 1,381 m. The elevation refers to Lysec as the destination, while “moderate” describes the character of the hike. Check trail conditions locally.
A marked blue cycling route runs from Belá-Dulice to Jasenská dolina and is 8 km long. You should also check the local signposting for this route. An educational trail between the municipality of Belá-Dulice and the Jasenská dolina–Kašová recreation centre has been open since 2009. It is suitable for recreational and sporting activities such as Nordic walking.
Jasenská dolina is a year-round recreation centre; seasonal services may vary. It has three groomed cross-country ski trails with a total length of 7 km. Grooming is seasonal. The year-round nature of the recreation centre should therefore be distinguished from the seasonal grooming of the trails. For planning your outings, the information provides different points of reference: the cycling route has a stated length, while the hike to Lysec has a stated difficulty level and destination elevation.
Cultural monuments and history
The Roman Catholic Church of Najsvätejšieho tela Kristovho in Belá-Dulice is Early Gothic and dates from the last third of the 13th century. It was renovated in 1749 and 1856. These two dates refer to later renovations and should be distinguished from the church’s construction period.
Another historic building is the bell tower at Rajčuli in Dulice, which dates from 1861. Archaeological sites include Dulický Hrádok and Hradište. Dulický Hrádok is a National Cultural Monument and an archaeological site from the early historical period. Hradište is also a National Cultural Monument from this period; in addition, its trapezoidal ground plan from the La Tène period has been documented. The two sites therefore offer different archaeological points of reference: for Hradište, the ground-plan shape is also part of its description.
Regional culture
Turčianske divadelné dni is an annual regional competition and showcase of Belopotockého Mikuláš amateur adult theatre and FEDIM youth theatre. The municipality of Belá-Dulice is a co-organiser, and the event takes place at the cultural centre in Belá-Dulice. If you want to plan your trip around a particular edition, check the relevant event dates.
The municipal cultural information, updated in 2020, lists the dances “Čardáše z Belej” and “Horňje lúky” from Belá-Dulice in the repertoire of the Lysec folk ensemble. Performance schedules may change. Together with the theatre days, this information offers insight into two different aspects of local cultural life: folk culture and amateur theatre.
