The river course, gorge and historic traces in the terrain give hikes around Sulţa a clear thematic framework. If you want to combine a stay with hiking, the routes differ mainly in landscape, time required and historic connections to places. One route follows the Sulța River, while another leads from Beleghet to Pasul Ghimeș and through Sulţa. In the direction of Coșnea, the paved road section ends near the upper edge of the village. This makes it possible to distinguish the hikes by natural features, timing and navigation.

Plan hikes by landscape and duration

One hiking route follows the Sulța River through a section with gorges. If you are looking for a route focused on the river and gorge landscape, you can use this trail as a guide. The hiking route from Beleghet to Pasul Ghimeș passes through Sulţa and is listed as taking six to seven hours. Set aside a dedicated time slot for this hike. Different considerations matter when choosing: the river route is characterized by its landscape, while a specific duration is given for the route from Beleghet to Pasul Ghimeș. This lets you consider the route and your day’s schedule together.

Navigation in the direction of Coșnea

Near the upper edge of Sulţa, the paved road section ends on the route toward Coșnea. As road conditions can change, check the current surface before setting out. In April 2021, as part of the Camino de România project, the Sulța–Coșnea section on the D.C. 135 was explored as a possible route. If you plan to take this section, check in advance that the trail markers are up to date.

Landscape along the Sulța route

There are steep sections close to houses along the Sulța route. After a sharp bend, a pine forest can be seen along the way. In addition to the river and gorge, steep passages near houses and views of the forest are among the landscape features. These specific characteristics give you different points of reference for understanding the nature of the hike.

Historic traces and connections to places

There is a bunker fortification on the Vadas ridge. The Sulța–Vadas–Piricske route passes through an area with shelters and trenches from the First World War. Access to such terrain features can be difficult and spending time there may be unsafe; therefore, do not assume that a visit is an easily accessible stop along the way. One route reaches the site of a former Austro-Hungarian barracks near Sulţa. The bunker, field positions and former barracks site are distinct points of military-historical interest.

The Sulța museum site is also part of the local history: from January 2008, it was located in Școala cu clasele I-IV Sulța. This connection adds a cultural aspect to the hiking landscape. Together, the river, gorges, historic traces in the terrain and the museum site provide different points of interest for a stay that you can focus on landscape, hiking time or local history.
