Moinesti between the spa park and DADA culture
Accommodation in Moinesti
Moinesti offers several distinct highlights for a stay: the mineral springs and recreational activities in Park Băi, DADA-related culture and outdoor trails. The spa park brings together the history of the springs with relaxation and exercise, while the monument, exhibition and events offer a cultural perspective on the city. Which aspect matters for your travel plans depends on whether you are mainly looking for culture, time in the park or a route through the landscape.
Park Băi: mineral springs and recreation in green surroundings
Moinești has been a spa resort of local tourist interest since February 2017. Park Băi covers 33.75 hectares; its mineral springs were discovered in 1856. The dates mark two distinct milestones: 1856 refers to the discovery of the springs, while February 2017 marks the start of the city’s tourist classification.
The “Parc Băi” spa park is suitable for walking, sports and games, as well as relaxing outdoors. Here, the history of the springs meets a variety of recreational activities in the park. The range of options is not limited to a single activity: you can consider walks alongside sports, games or a break outdoors.
DADA culture: monument, park and annual event
The Tzara-DADA monument was built in memory of Tristan Tzara. Its design consists of four letters: “D,” “A,” “D” and “A.” They repeat inside the structure and are rotated by 90 degrees; on a mosaic surface, they appear above the inscription “T-Z-A-R-A.” The letter composition and dedication to Tristan Tzara are thus part of a unified design concept.
The dimensions also give a concrete impression of the structure: the monument is 25 meters long, 2.6 meters wide and 10 meters high; it weighs 120 tons. The events program is also relevant to a cultural stay. The international symposium and museum exhibition “Tristan Tzara and DADA Culture” take place annually at the Lira Cultural Center in the city of Moinești.
Moinești Central Park is also associated thematically with the DADA movement. The theme therefore appears in different forms: in the monument’s design, as the focus of a park, and in the annual symposium and museum exhibition. If you would like to plan your trip around the symposium or exhibition, check the announced dates for your chosen travel period.
Church and regional history
One architectural highlight is the “Sf. Pantelimon” church. Built of wood, it has a shingle roof in the Transylvanian style of Maramureș and a 19-meter-high tower. Its construction, roof and tower height are specific features that distinguish this cultural perspective from the DADA themes.
A permanent exhibition in the central foyer of Moinești City Hall offers another perspective on regional history. It has been in place since 2011 and presents digital reproductions of historical photographs about the history of oil extraction in the region. The exhibition adds another focus to DADA culture: the history of oil extraction, conveyed through photographic reproductions.
Trails and time outdoors
A mountain hiking trail leads from Parcul Osoiu to the fortified settlement of Cetățuia. This gives you a clearly named destination for planning the route, without assuming a walking time or difficulty level.
On the southeastern slope of Dealului Osoiu, a park features paved paths made of stone setts, forest trails through a pine forest, two pavilions, and numerous seating and picnic areas. The paths vary in surface and setting: paved sections give way to forest trails, while pavilions, seating and picnic areas provide additional features in the park.
Plan your stay around your interests
When choosing a destination, you can distinguish between a cultural focus and time outdoors. The cultural theme includes DADA, the annual event at the Lira Cultural Center, the church and the exhibition on oil extraction. Outdoor activities include those available at Parc Băi, as well as the trails and park features mentioned at Osoiu.
