Tromvik combines a location in front of three named mountains with a fishing harbor and activities that depart from the harbor. Two spatial levels are also important when planning your trip: features within the village itself, and climbing and cabin options in the surrounding area. This lets you get your bearings in Tromvik using specific landscape, harbor and activity features.

Mountain Setting and Recreation Areas

Sørtinden, Mellomtinden and Tromtinden lie in front of Tromvik. Tromvikvassdraget is also a notable geographical landmark: it is one of the four best salmon rivers in Tromsø. In Kystplan Tromsøregionen, Tromvik is designated as outdoor recreation area FR-19. There are also several designated, easily accessible coastal recreation areas in the wider Tromvik–Grøtfjord area. The outdoor recreation designation applies to Tromvik; the coastal recreation areas are in the wider Tromvik–Grøtfjord area.

Harbor and Practical Information

Tromvik has a fishing harbor with privately built breakwaters. The boat harbor has berths for the local fishing fleet and visiting boats. Deep-sea fishing trips are also offered from Tromvik havn. If you want to include this activity in your plans, check availability before your trip. Berths for visiting boats and deep-sea fishing trips from Tromvik havn are two distinct harbor offerings for your planning.

At Allmenningskaia in Tromvik harbor, there is a pump for dyed diesel. Ordinary bank cards are not accepted; lubricants are also sold there. If you rely on this service, confirm payment and access arrangements locally.

In Tromvik, there is a public toilet with disabled access on the site of the old school by the bridge. Its operating schedule may vary by season. There is another toilet in a roadside lay-by in nearby Sandvika; this one is seasonal. The details therefore differ both by location and operating status—take the relevant season into account if you plan to use either facility.

Climbing and a Cabin Nearby

Grøtfjordvågen, between Tromvik and Grøtfjord, is considered a climbing area. The climbing cabin and Hollenderen are listed as destinations there. This makes it possible to distinguish a climbing area in the surrounding region from the harbor activities in Tromvik.

Nearby Hollenderhytta was completed in autumn 1982 and rebuilt after a fire in 1985. It is fully equipped and open to everyone; overnight stays cost 50 kroner per night for members. The approach from Vågen in Grøtfjord takes two hours. The distance is two kilometers as the crow flies, and the route crosses Grøtfjordskaret, with an elevation gain of 750 meters. The straight-line distance should be distinguished from the hiking time and elevation gain. As approach conditions and cabin rules may change, check them before setting out.
