Drøbak’s wooden houses, a year-round ferry and protected landscapes on Håøya offer several different perspectives on Frogn. When planning your trip, you can give culture, nature and activities on the water the emphasis that best suits your interests. Each of the places and offerings mentioned has its own focus, from a short trip across the fjord to trails through protected areas.

Take the ferry to Oscarsborg

The Oscarsborg ferry runs from Sundbrygga in Drøbak to Oscarsborg. The crossing takes about five minutes, and the ferry operates year-round. Timetables and service notices may change, so check the latest information before making plans. In 2004, Oscarsborg was opened to the public as a military heritage site and visitor destination. Guided tours with your own guide can be booked year-round; open group tours are available during school holidays. Check the current booking options in advance. This allows you to plan the crossing and a possible tour time as specific parts of your visit.

Wooden houses, a church and museums

Drøbak is one of the best-preserved wooden towns on the Oslofjord. Drøbak Church is another historic landmark: the wooden church was consecrated in 1776. If you are interested in different aspects of local history, museums offer additional perspectives of their own. The Norwegian Lutefisk Museum in Drøbak is the only museum of its kind in the world. Follo Museum is an open-air museum with old buildings from Frogn.

At Follo Museum, guided tours are available by appointment; an audio guide is also available around the clock. Before your visit, check whether these options are currently available. An arranged tour and the audio guide offer different ways to explore the museum. Together with the wooden houses and the church, they provide several cultural stops, each with its own appeal.

Håøya: nature reserve and trails

Håøya is home to more than 550 plant species. Its summit is the highest point in Frogn and on the Oslofjord. The southern part of Håøya is designated as a nature reserve with valuable old-growth forest; all plants and animals on Håøya are protected. In the eastern part of the reserve, access is prohibited because white-tailed eagles are nesting there. Take this restriction into account when planning your visit, and check local access information beforehand.

The “Håøya på langs” trail is about eight kilometres long. The route to the summit also passes through a nature reserve and a white-tailed eagle nesting area, where plants and animals are protected. The protected areas and the access prohibition are important considerations when planning your route. Also check current trail conditions, as they may change.

Another coastal trail runs from the border with Vestby via Skiphelle to Torkilstranda. This section was marked between 2019 and 2021. Check the current signs and trail conditions before setting out. When planning, you can use both a named trail on Håøya with an approximate length and a coastal section with specified endpoints as reference points.

Experiences on the water and choosing a hotel

The water-based offerings vary in type. The Drøbak RIB Safari event includes an approximately two-hour RIB tour around Håøya; confirm availability before booking. Drøbak Kystlag offers free rowboats with electric motors for hire, as well as free sailing courses and practical boat use by arrangement. Before your trip, check whether these offerings are currently available and which activities require advance arrangements.

When choosing a hotel in Frogn, consider which experiences you want to focus on during your trip: Drøbak’s wooden houses and museums, the trails and nature reserves on Håøya, or the activities on the water. Compare the location of a specific hotel with the places you want to visit, and plan appointments or ferry trips around your plans.
