In Sulimov, you can explore trails, viewpoints, and historic landmarks. There are different ways to plan your visit: a loop of just under five kilometers, a longer hiking trail between three villages, or a look at local architectural and cultural history. The routes mentioned differ mainly in their length and the places they connect.

Village Layout and Historic Landmarks

Sulimov is a 971 m-long street village. The elevation difference between the upper and lower parts of the village is 66 m. In the upper part, the village opens out into a village green, where the bell tower (Zvonice) stands. These landmarks illustrate the elongated layout and division into two parts of the village.

On the slope in the upper part of the village is the statue of Saint Anne (Socha svaté Anny), a prominent landmark that was erected in 1944. The bell tower dates from the early 19th century. It underwent a complete renovation in 1933, and the most recent structural modification took place in 1984. The statue and bell tower thus mark different points in the history of the upper part of the village.

Zapletalův kříž was erected above Sulimov in 1906 and is now located by the windbreak. It was completely renovated in September 2016. This included creating a new replica of the figure and a new cross made of Hořice sandstone, with a figure of Christ. Its year of construction, current location, and renovation provide several specific points of reference if you are interested in local monuments.

Hiking Trails and Viewpoints

A short circular trail runs for just under 5 km through Sulimov. Along the way, there are three viewpoints with views of the Hostýnské vrchy and Vizovické vrchy. A longer option is the 10 km hiking trail connecting Sulimov, Lubná, and Vrbka. It passes through interesting landscapes and offers viewpoints and forest paths; a detour to a burial mound site is also possible. To compare the two routes, start with their lengths: just under 5 km for the loop through Sulimov, compared with 10 km for the trail between the three villages.

Near Sulimov and Karolín, a viewpoint by a windbreak also serves as a junction for local hiking trails. From there, views extend to the White Carpathians, the Zlín Region, and the surrounding area along this stretch of trail. The “Stezky severními Chřiby” trail network includes information boards, hiking trail signs, viewpoints, and benches; it also has educational features for children in some places. Before setting out, check the project map for current trail markings and conditions on the specific route.

Local Traditions and Tasting

May devotions have been held again at the bell tower in Sulimov since 1997. Check the local schedule for specific dates. The annual “Velký sulimovský košt slivovice” tasting also takes place at a specific time: it is held in a pub at the end of January and includes a competition for the best sample of that season. If you would like to combine your visit with the event, check the details in advance.

A historical trace of slivovitz production dates back to 1906: that year, a distillery for making slivovitz was built at the lower end of the village near St. Trojice. This adds historical context to the present-day tasting without implying that the historic distillery is the venue for the event. Local culture also includes the Moravian-Slovak dialect and traditional dress: people in Sulimov still wore traditional dress around the turn of the 19th to 20th century, women for the longest.
