When planning your trip to Nivnice, cultural history and local leisure activities go hand in hand. Historical sites include the Church of the Guardian Angels, Bartkův mlýn and several exhibitions; there is also the Nivnická riviéra and a cycle path whose first section through Nivnice opened in 2009. When looking for hotels, you can tailor your stay to your interests: cultural attractions, or perhaps exercise and water activities as well.

Cultural History in Nivnice

The Church of the Guardian Angels stands at a site where a church was already recorded in 1403. The watermill complex of Bartkův mlýn is a listed cultural monument; the mill is also regarded as the birthplace of Jan Amos Comenius. The Comenius memorial room opened in 1992 as an exhibition about his life and work. Since 2002, it has been located in the vestibule of the second-stage school building of ZŠ Nivnice, close to Bartkův mlýn. Check the location details before your visit.

The Dr. Josefa Kachníka Foundation House also connects an exhibition with local educational history: it houses a museum founded in 1966 by the local history society. The Komenský Educational Library is in the same building. It was founded on March 28, 1928, by ThDr. Josef Kachník, a professor at Charles University who was born in Nivnice. The two founding dates offer different points of reference for this part of the town’s history.

Nivnická izba and Local Folk Costume

The Nivnická izba exhibition was established in 1975. It displays folk costumes and a traditional rural interior with a table, chairs, a “láva” and other household items. The local costume, “Nivnický kroj,” is also part of living culture: it is maintained and preserved for local festivals and performances by ensembles from Nivnice. The Nivnická izba is open to the public during the local hody; at other times, visits are possible by prior telephone arrangement. Call ahead to confirm the access arrangements.

Leisure by the Water, in the Square and on Two Wheels

The Nivnická riviéra has a swimming pool and a paddling pool for children. Its sports facilities include tennis courts and a volleyball court. The water attractions and facilities for two sports offer different leisure options. Facility details may change seasonally; check the information before visiting.

The first section of the “Krajem J. Á. Komenského Nivnice – Uh. Brod” cycle path, which runs through Nivnice, opened in 2009. Cycling therefore adds another possible focus for your stay, alongside cultural history and leisure activities by the water. The year refers to the opening of the first section.

A Historic Distilling Tradition

Local production is also part of the town’s history: from 1872, the Prágrova distillery produced the well-known slivovitz. This historical connection adds another facet to Nivnice’s churches, mill and exhibition history.

When searching for a hotel in Nivnice, consider whether you want to focus your stay mainly on cultural and historical sites and exhibitions, or also include water and sports activities or cycling. Use this focus to choose hotel offers that suit your trip.
