Francova Lhota: Rock Landscapes, Trails and Wallachian Customs
Accommodation in Francova Lhota
Francova Lhota offers travelers several distinct themes: the rock landscape of the Pulčín-Hradisko National Nature Reserve, viewpoints, trails connected with the landscape and history, and Wallachian customs throughout the year. When planning your trip, it is worth organizing nature and cultural themes by season and preferred activity. Depending on whether you want to focus on rock formations, a viewpoint, a nature trail or a custom, you can choose different priorities for your stay.
Rock Landscapes and Viewpoints
The Pulčín-Hradisko National Nature Reserve protects significant rock formations and forests with a naturally composed mix of species. The Pulčínské skály consist of five groups of rocks. The Trtol rock formation offers a view of the valley. The Kobzova lime tree is a memorial tree standing 26 meters tall, with a trunk circumference of 760 centimeters. The circumference is 7.6 meters; height and trunk circumference describe two different dimensions of the tree. A freely accessible observation tower stands on Čubův kopec. It is made of wood, 16 meters high and has four levels. At Trtol, the view is associated with a rock formation, while the tower, as a constructed viewpoint, offers a different kind of outlook.
Trails and Seasonal Nature Experiences
A nature trail runs through Francova Lhota and along the ridge of the Javorníky Mountains. It offers views and information about the landscape and Wallachian history. Francova Lhota is an excellent starting point for stages along the Javorníky ridge and in the direction of the White Carpathians. A cycling route connects the communities of the Hornolidečsko microregion in two loops and is over 50 kilometers long. These are different formats for trip planning: a nature trail with views and historical context, stages toward the areas mentioned, and a cycling route in loops. This lets you weigh up the type of activity and the direction you want your tour to take.
The colorful icefalls in the Pulčín-Hradisko National Nature Reserve can be reached via a seasonally marked trail from the information center in Pulčín. Check conditions before a winter trip. Entry in the Pulčín-Hradisko National Nature Reserve is prohibited by law outside marked hiking trails. Check the current information about the protected area before your visit.
Wallachian Customs Throughout the Year
Traditional Fašank processions take place in Francova Lhota each year on the weekend before Ash Wednesday. The two-day procession goes through the municipality and ends at the local cultural center with the burial of the bass. In December, processions by a Mikuláš group take place; they are especially characteristic of southern Wallachia. These customs provide different seasonal reference points for cultural planning: the weekend before Ash Wednesday for Fašank and December for the Mikuláš processions. If you want to plan your trip around one of these customs, check the specific event date in advance.
