Zubří offers two distinct cultural experiences for a stay: the architecture of the Church of St. Catherine and local history at the Zubří Museum. For time outdoors, there are walks around the Hamerské ponds, a nature trail and a yellow-marked hiking route. You can decide what to focus on based on whether you are more interested in architectural history, local collections or trails.

Church and Architectural History

The Church of St. Catherine (“Kostel sv. Kateřiny”) dates from the Josephine era. Its three-aisled floor plan is unique in the Vsetín District; it also has built-in galleries. Three-aisled means that the church interior is divided into three aisles, while galleries are built-in balconies that complement the interior. These are specific features of its architecture, both in the layout of the space and in the galleries. The church has been a protected monument since 3 May 1958. Its architectural form and protected status offer different points of reference: the floor plan sets the building apart in the region, while the date marks the start of its protected status.

Zubří Museum

The permanent exhibition of the Zubří Museum has been housed in a publicly accessible repository at Hlavní ulice 824 since 2016. It presents the history of Zubří and sought-after works by embroiderers from Zubří. The museum also displays a remarkably extensive archaeological and mineralogical collection. The exhibits thus range from local history and local embroidery to archaeological and mineralogical subjects.

Each year, the museum prepares several special exhibitions. They present museum collections, local historical events, and works by artists and craftspeople from the region. The exhibitions change. If you want to see a particular subject, check the current programme and opening hours before your visit.

Walks and Hiking Trails

The area around Velký hamerský rybník and Malý hamerský rybník offers opportunities for walks. Velký hamerský rybník covers 5 ha, and Malý hamerský rybník covers 3.5 ha. The ponds are also the only surviving remnants of Zubří’s former ironworks, so a walk there can also be connected with a specific aspect of the area’s industrial history.

The “Co pamatují zubři v Zubří” nature trail is about 7 kilometres long and has 9 stops. Its approximate length and number of stops give you some key details for planning your day. Check trail conditions locally before setting out. From Zubří, you can also join a route via a yellow-marked hiking trail that crosses the picturesque ridges of the Veřovické vrchy. If you want to include these ridges in your hiking plans, check the trail markers before setting out as well.
