Accommodation in Střítež Nad Bečvou
Střítež Nad Bečvou lies in the Rožnovská Bečva valley, on its left bank and at the foot of the slopes of the Vsetínské vrchy. When choosing a destination for your hotel stay, this location offers a clear connection to the landscape: the valley, river and slope belong together here. At the same time, the Evangelical Church, the protected Rákosina wetland and the signposted cycling routes shape the themes you can take into account when planning your trip. If you are weighing up different places, these specific landscape, cultural and natural features help you situate Střítež.
Some of the farmsteads are scattered across the Paseky between the forests of the Beskydy Protected Landscape Area. Thus, in addition to the valley and riverbank, the scattered farmsteads among the forests are also part of the area’s landscape setting.
The Evangelical Church and local history
The Evangelical Church was built between 1868 and 1876 for a congregation of the Helvetic Confession. It is a detached, three-nave church in a pseudo-historicist style, with a polygonal apse. In 1993, it was declared an immovable cultural monument and entered in the Central Register of Cultural Monuments of the Czech Republic under registration number 10421. Its construction period, architectural form and protected status are distinct points of reference when considering the cultural character of the place.
The church has a Baroque-style organ. According to experts, it was built after 1780 by František Horčička; in 1873, the Střítež Evangelical congregation acquired it for 100 gulden. The purchase date falls within the church’s construction period, which ended in 1876. The instrument’s creation and its later acquisition by the congregation can therefore be viewed as separate milestones in local history.
In the small park in front of the church stands a statue of T. G. Masaryk, installed in its present form in 1990. A memorial to the victims of the First World War is also located in the park. The statue and the war memorial represent different forms of remembrance in one clearly defined place.
Craft history is also part of Střítež’s historical profile. The village was known for making woollen lumberjack gloves, basket weaving and weaving reed mats. These activities complement the history of buildings and remembrance with textile work and weaving techniques.
Rákosina: protected wetland
Rákosina is a protected wetland covering 17,582 square metres at an elevation of 339 to 341 metres. It comprises reed beds, grassy embankments and about ten wetland pools. In 1993, Rákosina was declared a natural monument to protect nature, particularly endangered amphibian species. This provides a distinct nature-conservation focus alongside the cultural emphasis on the church: the wetland habitat and the protection of endangered amphibians define the character of the Rákosina area.
Cycling routes and walks
Two different routes are relevant for cycling visitors. A signposted cycling route leads from Střítež towards the Bystřička Reservoir, where it connects with several signposted hiking and cycling routes. In addition, a shared footpath and cycle path, completed in mid-2023, connects Střítež nad Bečvou with the existing Bečva Cycle Path and road I/35. These two descriptions refer to different connections: the first indicates a direction and connections at the reservoir, while the second describes a link to an existing cycle path and a road. Check local conditions on the signposted cycling route before setting off.
The pond and its well-maintained surroundings are also a popular destination for walks by residents and visitors to Střítež. Thus, alongside the cycling routes, walks to a local destination are another possible reason to visit. When choosing a destination for your stay, you can decide whether you would rather focus on the signposted cycling routes, the protected wetland or the cultural sites.
