Pržno: Churches, History and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Pržno
Pržno lies in the Vsetínská Bečva valley, and the Vsetínská Bečva cycling route passes through the village. Churches, the memorial lime tree and historic craft traditions add cultural and historical themes to its landscape setting. For planning, the main topics can be considered separately: for the churches, the focus is on building phases and religious tradition; for the cycling routes, it is mainly on their course, length and difficulty.
Churches and Religious Tradition
The Church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary is the centre of the Roman Catholic parish. Its foundation stone was laid in 1886, and construction was completed in October 1889. The church was built on the site of a demolished, originally Gothic predecessor dating from 1525. Its history therefore encompasses both a late 19th-century building and a much older church site.
The Neo-Gothic Evangelical church has its own historical timeline. Its foundation stone was laid on 5 July 1866, and the building continues to serve its purpose to this day. The Evangelical congregation in Pržno is one of five congregations in the Czech Republic that preserve a sung Lutheran liturgical tradition. An earlier phase is represented by the small wooden house of prayer: the congregation built it in 1783, and it was used until 1866. The building history and the continuing liturgy illustrate different aspects of the Evangelical tradition in the village.
Local History and the Memorial Lime Tree
The memorial lime tree stands in the village square in front of the Catholic church. It is at least 300 years old. Compared with the present-day Catholic church, whose construction was completed in 1889, the tree points to the village’s more distant past. Its location in front of the church connects this natural monument with a specific point in the village landscape.
Local craft traditions are also part of Pržno’s history. Towards the end of the 20th century, some residents made baskets from willow twigs. Křiváky knives were also still made there at home, and wooden tools were produced. The details record different activities: basket weaving by some residents, as well as home production of Křiváky and the making of tools.
Cycling Routes and Their Courses
The Vsetínská Bečva cycling route passes through Pržno and other villages along the route from Velké Karlovice to Valašské Meziříčí. Most of it runs on a cycle path without car traffic. Both its course through several villages and the fact that most of the route is free of car traffic are therefore relevant when describing it.
Cycling route 6118 is 52 kilometres long, suitable for mountain bikes and rated as moderately difficult. On the Rozhledna-Maruška cycling route, after eight kilometres the route reaches a junction in Pržno. There it turns onto cycling route 6118 towards Prženské paseky. A section of the yellow hiking trail also shares its route with the blue cycling route in Pržno.
Another route is described as the Gurmánská trasa: it descends to Pržno and then follows the Vsetínská Bečva through Jarcová to Valašské Meziříčí. The route descriptions therefore differ in their focus. For route 6118, the length and difficulty are given; for the Vsetínská Bečva, the endpoints and the largely car-free cycle path are noted. The Gurmánská trasa and the Rozhledna-Maruška route can be understood from their described courses.
