Police lies 7 km southwest of Valašské Meziříčí, on the edge of the Kelečská Uplands. The southern part of Police extends into the slopes of the Hostýnské vrchy. The landscape, cycling, nature, and local history offer different starting points for planning a trip. If you are looking for a hotel in Police, you can first consider which of these interests you want to shape your stay.

Landscape and orientation

At 557 m, Hůrka is the highest point in Police. The Loučka forms the axis of the cadastral area. These two details provide specific points of reference in the landscape: a high point and a watercourse that runs through the area. Together with its location on the edge of the Kelečská Uplands and the slopes of the Hostýnské vrchy to the south, they help locate Police in its surroundings.

Cycling, panorama, and arboretum

Police Arboretum is located on the site of the former Ve Zmole orchard. It is home to 70 species of trees and shrubs commonly found in Central Europe. The arboretum offers panoramic views of the Beskydy and Javorníky. The plants and the view connect two different aspects of nature here: the diversity of woody plants on site and views of the named mountain ranges.

The arboretum opened in May 2018; at that time, it was open to the public free of charge. If you are planning a visit, please check in advance whether access is currently available. This keeps the access status at the time separate from whether a visit is possible on your travel dates.

Marked cycling route 6216 passes through Police on its way to Valašské Meziříčí. There is also a pump track on municipal land, open to the general public. This gives Police two distinct cycling attractions: a marked route through the town and a publicly accessible facility. In 2026, Police also co-hosted the mountain bike competition “Polický okruh – memoriál Milana Gerly,” which is included in the DTB Série.

The Cyril and Methodius Trail runs through the southeast of the cadastral area. It is a network of several routes known as a European Cultural Route; they approach Velehrad from different directions and follow in the footsteps of Slavic heritage. Its connection to Police lies in the southeastern part of the cadastral area; the various routes converge on Velehrad from several directions.

Local history and events

Police is home to the Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, built in 1933. A memorial commemorates the victims of both world wars. A further, precisely dated glimpse of local life is the masked Vodění medvěda carnival procession: it took place in Police on February 7, 2026, and visited residents’ homes.

Culinary and community events were also part of local life in 2026. Visitors could sample traditional pork specialties at the Vepřové hody, held in Police on January 24. The third edition of the Polický košt slivovice took place at Hospoda Nad Točnou on March 14, 2026. The 2026 edition of the traditional New Year’s walking trip took place on January 17, with participants walking to Oznice and back to Police. These details describe specific events and their respective dates.
