Mikulůvka lies in a picturesque valley at the eastern foot of the Hostýnské vrchy. Much of the area is forested. The Mikulůvka stream flows through the village and joins the Vsetínská Bečva. Local highlights include a historic watermill complex, a wooden bell tower, a marked cycling route and seasonal leisure activities. When planning your stay, you can choose between architectural history, cycling trips and activities in the village.

Mill Complex and Local Architectural History

The watermill complex is located in the eastern part of Mikulůvka. It includes a residential building made of timber logs, a newer brick mill building, and two stone cellars with wooden superstructures. The elements differ in material and construction: the timber-log building is complemented by masonry, stone cellars and wooden superstructures.

Mikulův Mill is protected as a cultural monument and is open to the public as an exhibition on the historical development of milling. Access arrangements may change, so check how the exhibition can currently be visited before your trip. The mill also serves as a centre for environmental activities. The wooden bell tower in Mikulůvka dates from 1906 and is considered an important local monument. It has been reconstructed, and a new bell has rung there since 2013.

Cycling in the Valley and on the Gurmánská Route

A marked cycling route passes through Mikulůvka, following the Mikulůvka stream along the valley and continuing into the surrounding forests. The stream and forested surroundings provide the local setting for this route. The Gurmánská cycling route runs from Bystřička through Mikulůvka, Prženské paseky and Pržno, and then passes through Mikulůvka again. The route is listed as having an elevation difference of 620 metres.

At the start of the Gurmánská route, visitors can try Valašsko baked goods such as frgály at a local bakery. The bakery is a culinary stop at the start of the route; this does not mean it is located in Mikulůvka. If you plan to stop, check whether the baked goods are currently available. Route conditions may also change, so it is worth checking the latest information before setting out.

Outdoor Swimming Pool and Sports Complex

The Mikulůvka outdoor swimming pool has a small and a large pool. There is also beach volleyball and a snack bar. As opening is seasonal and may change, check the latest information about the pool before visiting.

During the season, locals and visitors can try tennis, basketball and other sports at the sports complex. The facilities also include a sports hall and a multi-purpose court with spaces for tennis, nohejbal and volleyball. Alongside the outdoor pool activities, the complex offers further opportunities for sport in the village. Conditions for using and booking the facilities may change, so check in advance if you plan to use a particular facility.

Culture and Events

The history of Valašský krúžek is also part of Mikulůvka’s cultural life: the association was founded in 1949 and staged theatre performances as well as ethnographic programmes featuring dance and singing. These activities were later discontinued. They should therefore be understood as part of the village’s history, not as current events.

Kaprobraní is held annually in Mikulůvka and features an extensive programme of supporting events. If you would like to plan your trip around this event, check the specific dates and whether it is still being held. Together with the mill exhibition and bell tower, the festival adds a cultural occasion to the area’s sporting opportunities.
