If you are looking for a hotel in Zabrušany, local history, church architecture and bodies of water can help you choose a focus for your trip. Hradiště, the Zabrušanské rybníky and Vodní nádrž Všechlapy represent different historical and landscape features. Sports facilities and a specific program at the Zabrušanské slavnosti 2024 add to what the town has to offer.

Hradiště and church architecture

The earliest phase of the Hradiště of Zabrušany dates to the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries. It was expanded in the 10th century and protected by three lines of fortifications. This chronology distinguishes the early beginnings from later expansion. Three lines of fortifications indicate a multi-part defense rather than a single defensive line. If you are interested in the development of historic sites, this sequence provides a clear guide without conflating the two phases into a single period of construction.

Church architecture also reveals another side of the town’s history. The Church of St. Simon, Jude and Anthony, together with its staircase, forms an axially composed architectural ensemble. In an axial composition, structural elements are arranged in relation to a shared axis; here, the staircase is explicitly part of the design. The filial Church of Simon and Jude was built between 1723 and 1728. One historical change concerns the structure with the Church of St. Simon, Jude and Anthony: it was demolished and relocated just under half a kilometer northeast, to the rampart of the former Hradiště. Thus, the design of the ensemble and the relocation of the historic structure are distinct aspects.

Ponds and reservoir

The Zabrušanské rybníky have their origins in mining. They were created when a residual pit from brown coal mining was flooded with groundwater and water from the Bouřlivec stream. Today, the ponds have natural shorelines and serve as an ecological stabilizing feature of the area. This contrast is revealing when considering the landscape: their creation was linked to brown coal mining, while natural shorelines and ecological stabilization are also among the ponds’ characteristics.

Vodní nádrž Všechlapy is a different body of water. It was created in the municipality of Zabrušany near the original Hradiště, and sport fishing is possible there. The two bodies of water therefore also differ in what they offer travelers: the Zabrušanské rybníky are notable for their origins and shorelines, while Vodní nádrž Všechlapy is associated with its location near the original Hradiště and the possibility of sport fishing.

Sports and events

In the center of Zabrušany is a sports complex with a multi-purpose court, a soccer field and a nearby playground. In 2023, the multi-purpose court was equipped for volleyball, nohejbal, small-sided soccer and streetball. Several sports are therefore associated with the multi-purpose court, while the soccer field is a separate part of the complex. If you wish to use a particular facility, check the current operating rules before your visit.

At the Zabrušanské slavnosti 2024, children from local kindergartens and pupils from the elementary school performed short programs. If an event is a deciding factor for your trip, check the dates for the relevant travel year before making plans.
