So, during your stay, it is also worth exploring the area’s historical milestones and the geology of Husův vrch.
Landscape and Geology
Husův vrch is a Tertiary neovolcanic hill above the Bílina Valley. It consists of olivine nephelinite and pyroclastics. The geological site lies on the southern slope of the hill of the same name, on the eastern edge of Hostomice. Its position above the valley and its specific rock composition give Husův vrch a distinct geological profile. Those interested in the landscape will find here, alongside the general setting of Hostomice, a specific point of reference in the form of a single hill.
Historical Development
The first written mention of Hostomice dates from 1225. That year, the settlement was donated to a convent of the Knights of the Cross. Much later, during the rapid industrialisation of the second half of the 19th century, glassworks were established in Hostomice. Coal was mined in several open-cast mines in the surrounding area. Industrial development also included a railway line connecting Bílina and Ústí nad Labem. The town’s history stretches from its first written mention and the donation in 1225 to the industrial changes of the 19th century.
Archaeological and Palaeontological Finds
Around the turn of the 20th century, a large settlement and a hoard from the Late Bronze Age were discovered in Hostomice. The hoard included axes, a sword, arrowheads, bracelets, needles and decorated buttons. It therefore ranged from weapons and tools to bracelets, needles and buttons. Mining and brickmaking in Hostomice revealed a different kind of trace: fossil remains, including massive tusks of mastodons, elephants of the genus Dinotherium, and remains of monkeys and bats.
