Muschelberg (Mikulov) combines a local ski area with architectural and mining history. In summer, there are also trails for hiking and cycling. If you are looking for a hotel in Muschelberg, these different attractions can help you coordinate your travel dates with your planned excursions.

Winter sports at Bouřňák

The local ski area has six downhill slopes and cross-country trails. Two ski lifts run from Mikulov to Bouřňák. This gives you two different forms of winter sport here: downhill skiing on the slopes and cross-country skiing on the trails. The Sport Centrum Bouřňák ski area lies within the municipalities of Mikulov, Nové Město and Moldava in the Ore Mountains. Together, these places define the ski area's geographical setting; when planning, you can distinguish between the local facilities in Muschelberg and the other places in the area.

The information about six downhill slopes and the cross-country trails describes the winter sports on offer, while the two ski lifts indicate the connection from Mikulov to Bouřňák.

Hiking and cycling in summer

In summer, the Sport Centrum Bouřňák area has marked trails for hiking. The Krušnohorská magistrála can also be used for cycling in summer. These two options differ by activity: the marked trails are described for hiking, and the magistrála for cycling. When choosing your travel dates, you can therefore focus on winter sports or on the summer activities mentioned.

A viewpoint overlooking the valley is near Muschelberg: Vlčí kámen. The hiking route there from Mikulov starts at the car park below the ski slope. You can consider a visit as an excursion into the nearby area and distinguish it from the marked trails in the Sport Centrum Bouřňák area.

Church, railway and mining history

The parish church of Saint Nicholas, Bishop, is a late Baroque religious building. It was built in the early 18th century on the foundations of an older, damaged church. Since 6 June 2002, it has been protected as a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The construction date, earlier foundations and monument status offer different historical points of reference for a visit: the site's history before the church, the construction of the present church and its later protected status.

The Mikulovský Tunnel is also a cultural monument. The Most–Moldava railway line also passes through Mikulov; its Most–Moldava section through the town has been a cultural monument of the Czech Republic since 1998.

The Lehnschafter adit is one of the oldest parts of the mine in Mikulov. Visitors can choose from three prepared underground tours, each lasting one to two hours. This duration is a concrete factor in planning, distinct from the shorter or longer activities on a trip; it applies to each of the three tours. A mining settlement called Neu Schellenberg probably existed in the area of present-day Mikulov as early as the beginning of the 15th century. It is believed to have been there in 1404 and 1410. This early settlement history and the adit point to different aspects of mining in the area.

An educational trail in the wider region

The cross-border Rehefeld/Moldava educational trail runs through the wider region. It can be started at any point and walked in either direction. Its 16 information panels cover the history and nature of the two municipalities in the Czech-German border region. The freedom to choose a starting point and direction sets this trail apart from the specifically named route to nearby Vlčí kámen. It is one way to explore the region beyond Muschelberg without treating it as a local circular walk.

The topics described offer concrete points of reference when choosing a destination; the right time to travel depends on which of them you would like to explore.
