When planning a trip to Bžany, you can choose from several highlights: the Supí vrch educational trail, the Bukovická vyhlídka viewpoint, and the chapel and historic farmstead. This lets you decide whether to focus on a short walk, a viewpoint, nature or architectural history.

Walking and Views

The Supí vrch educational trail is about half a kilometre long and has four information boards. It ends at a panoramic board with views of the landscape of the Bohemian Central Highlands around Milešovka, the highest mountain, and the valley of the Bílina River. The trail’s length, boards and endpoint give it a clearly defined character to bear in mind when planning your visit.

The Bukovická vyhlídka offers a different experience: it makes a suitable destination for a short walk or a stop on longer hiking trails in the municipality’s surroundings. It can be reached via local paths and is suitable for both pedestrians and cyclists. Its natural setting near Bukovice and views of the surrounding landscape make the viewpoint a distinct highlight. To choose between the two options, consider the different types of visit: a short educational trail with information boards, or a viewpoint that can also be included on longer hiking routes. Before visiting, check for current information about the trail and access; facilities and access conditions may change.

Rock Steppe on Supí vrch

Above Lbín, Supí vrch is home to a preserved rock-steppe habitat. It is known to support 22 endangered species of higher plants. Alongside the views, this specific natural area is one of Supí vrch’s special features. If you are weighing nature against architectural history when choosing your destination, this habitat offers a distinct botanical interest, while the educational trail, with its information boards and panoramic views, provides a different way to experience the landscape.

The Chapel and Local History

Bžany was first mentioned in writing in 1303. The Chapel of the Virgin Mary was built in 1760 in the High Baroque style and remains an important landmark of the municipality. It was renovated in 1834 at the expense of Anton Rank, a farmer from house no. 1. These dates mark different stages: 1303 is the year of Bžany’s first written mention, 1760 the year the chapel was built, and 1834 the year it was later renovated. This helps place the history of the village and the building in context without conflating the three dates.

Farming Architecture at Špýchar č. p. 3

Špýchar č. p. 3 is a Baroque agricultural farmstead and an example of folk architecture from the second half of the 18th century and the early 19th century. The enclosed complex comprises a house, granary, barn and farm buildings. Rather than a single building standing alone, the complex is defined by the relationship between its different types of buildings. Together with the chapel, it offers an instructive comparison: on one side is a religious landmark, on the other an enclosed farming complex. Both provide different insights into the architectural history of Bžany.
