If you’re looking for a hotel for a stay in Žim, local points of interest can help you get a feel for the destination: the history of the parish church, a marked cycling route, paths into the open countryside and the Záhořský rybník. They offer different starting points for planning your trip, from local history to outdoor activities.

History and Parish Church

Žim is a medieval village of originally Slavic origin, situated on an important historic road that crossed the Bohemian Central Highlands. The first documented mention of the village appears in papal tithe registers from 1352 to 1391. A historic route passed through Žim, crossed the Bohemian Central Highlands near Milešov and continued towards Velemín and Lovosice. These details give the village’s history both a documented timeframe and a geographical connection to earlier routes.

The Church of the Finding of the Holy Cross (Nalezení sv. Kříže) is documented from 1357. Originally built in the Gothic style, it was remodelled in the Renaissance style in the 16th century; the nave was extended in 1699. These dates mark several building phases: its Gothic origins, its remodelling in the Renaissance style and a later extension of the nave. Regular services are not held in the church, and it is not accessible to people with mobility impairments. If you’re interested in the church’s architecture, these details provide a timeline of its development. The information about services and accessibility is also important for planning your visit.

Chapel and Záhořský rybník

Žim is also home to the Chapel of Our Lady (Panny Marie) in Záhoří. Regular services are not held there, and the chapel is not accessible to people with mobility impairments. A publication from 2019 describes work completed in 2017–2018: the area around the chapel was improved alongside a newly reconstructed road, and the access to the water was reinforced with gravel.

A 2019 conference publication describes how, at the Záhořský rybník in Žim-Záhoří, visitors can sit on stones by a spring and look out over the Bohemian Central Highlands. It also reports that the pond was used for swimming on hot summer days. If swimming is part of your plans, check locally whether it is currently possible and permitted. For people without permanent residence in the area, seasonal fishing permission at the Záhořský rybník is valid from 1 March to 31 December. The municipal website was updated on 28 January 2026; check the current regulations before fishing, as they may change.

Landscape and Routes

The open countryside around Žim can be reached by field and forest paths that connect to the settled part of the municipality. Marked cycling route 3009 passes through Žim and connects with cycling route 3091 to the east, near Radejčín. This describes two different route connections: field and forest paths lead from the settlement into the open countryside, while route 3009 runs through Žim and joins another cycling route at Radejčín. If you’re planning a bike ride, this connection is a specific point of reference.

The railway line 097 between Lovosice and Teplice v Čechách, which passes through Žim, is another point of reference. In the south of the municipality, the southern two-thirds lie within the protection zone of the supra-regional ecological corridor “Stříbrný roh – Milešovka”. The supra-regional ecological centre Milešovka, number 17, follows much of Žim’s southern boundary; only small extensions reach into the municipal area. These details describe different spatial relationships: a protection zone covering a large part of the south and an ecological centre along the boundary. This helps distinguish these landscape features from the specifically described paths and routes.
