Landscape, Hiking and Early History

The Tabulová National Nature Reserve includes the flat summit of Stolová hora and the adjacent Růžový vrch, with the ruins of Sirotčí hrádek. Forests and various types of steppe form a mosaic of habitats there. The rare Ethiopian sage grows in the reserve and is thought to occur naturally only here in the Czech Republic. For nature lovers, this brings together protected habitats and a distinctive botanical detail.

Visitors can reach Stolová hora from Klentnice via a red-marked hiking trail. Archaeological evidence on the mountain indicates settlement dating back to the Neolithic, as well as a fortified settlement from the Bronze Age. Remains of ramparts and walls are still visible today. The history therefore spans from the Neolithic to the Bronze Age; the visible ramparts and walls belong to the fortified settlement. Check trail conditions and any restrictions before setting out, as they may change.

Castle Ruins and Building History

Sirotčí hrádek is a Gothic castle ruin dating from the 13th century, above Klentnice, and has been a protected monument since 1964. Entry is at your own risk; surface conditions vary seasonally. Take both into account when planning your visit. The building’s age and its protected status refer to different points in time: the ruin dates from the 13th century, while it has been a protected monument since 1964.

In the centre of Klentnice is a protected-monument complex that includes the single-nave, late Baroque Church of St. George. “Single-nave” describes a church space with one main nave; “late Baroque” identifies the architectural style. The terms therefore refer to two different aspects: the spatial form and the architectural period. In comparison with the Gothic castle ruin, they highlight different building forms and historical styles.
