Tvrdonice: Floodplain Forest, Birdlife and Cultural History
Accommodation in Tvrdonice
When looking for a hotel for a trip to Tvrdonice, you can first decide what you want to focus on during your stay: nature, cultural history or an event. For nature enthusiasts, the floodplain forest, wetlands and birdlife are key attractions. Routes also vary depending on their destination: one turn-off leads to the Stibůrkovská jezera Nature Reserve, marked cycle route 43A runs through the floodplain forest to Tvrdonice, and another popular route leads to the Slovak village of Moravský Svätý Ján. The Slovácká chalupa adds a specific historical connection to these natural attractions.
Nature and Habitats
A total of 240 bird species have been recorded in the Soutok-Tvrdonicko area. It serves as a breeding, wintering and stopover site. The number describes the area’s diversity of species; the three terms also explain the role the area plays throughout the year: breeding, wintering and stopping over during migration.
Most of the eastern part of Tvrdonice is covered by floodplain forest. The Stibůrkovská jezera Nature Reserve protects former channels of the Kyjovka, preserved meadow and wetland vegetation, small pools and fragments of floodplain forest; these habitats provide refuge for rare plant and animal species. This offers two distinct connections with nature: floodplain forest as a defining feature of the eastern part, and a protected area whose habitats range from former river channels to pools.
Distinguishing Routes and Destinations
The Stibůrkovská jezera Nature Reserve can be reached via a turn-off before the entrance to Tvrdonice. A marked turn-off from cycle route 43A, by contrast, runs through the floodplain forest to Tvrdonice. The two directions differ both in their destinations and in how the routes are described: the first leads to the nature reserve, while the second is part of the marked cycle route and leads into the village. When planning your trip, it helps to decide first whether the nature reserve or Tvrdonice itself is your intended destination.
A popular route also leads from Tvrdonice to the neighboring Slovak village of Moravský Svätý Ján. It offers a different destination from route 43A: while the marked cycle route passes through the floodplain forest to Tvrdonice, this popular route points to the neighboring Slovak village. Alongside the nature reserve and the route to Tvrdonice, you can therefore also choose a cross-border direction.
Cultural History and Events
The Slovácká chalupa is located in Tvrdonice’s ethnographic area. It was inspired by a house from Tvrdonice that was built in 1895 for the National Folk Culture Exhibition in Prague. The year 1895 refers to the model house; the Slovácká chalupa was inspired by it. This connects local origins with a folk culture exhibition in Prague and the ethnographic area in Tvrdonice.
The amphitheater in Tvrdonice is available for hire. If you are planning an event there, check availability for your preferred date. While the Slovácká chalupa offers a connection to cultural history, the amphitheater is a venue that can be rented for an event. You can therefore consider cultural history and event planning as distinct focuses for your stay.
