Moravský Žižkov offers several points of interest for a stay: a historic cellar quarter, two religious buildings with different dates and design features, as well as a wine route and natural attractions around Žižkovský rybník. Together, these topics tell the story of the municipality’s architectural history, winegrowing culture and landscape.

Winegrowing and Architectural History

Agrární is a historically named cellar quarter in Moravský Žižkov, associated with a long tradition of winegrowing and folklore. Agrární includes a small square with old agricultural machinery and seating; wine cellars line two of its sides. Here, reminders of agricultural history and wine-cellar architecture stand side by side. The municipality’s Benátky district is also home to the largest wine-cellar complex; in Agrární, cyclists and pedestrians can walk along the oldest wine lane.

The Kaplička sv. Floriána is the oldest building in Moravský Žižkov and dates from 1852. The area around its entrance is decorated with Slovácko ornaments. Its construction date and ornamentation offer two different ways to understand the building: its age and a design detail rooted in the region.

The church Kostel Panny Marie Vítězné offers a different point of reference in time. Construction began in 2000, and the church was consecrated on 17 August 2002. It has a freestanding tower topped by a cross and a belfry with three bells. Compared with the chapel dating from 1852, it belongs to a much more recent period of construction. The traditional event “Zarážení hory” took place in the Agrární cellar area on 2 September 2023.

Wine Route and Landscape

The Žižkovská vinařská stezka is a circular route about two kilometres long through the vineyards. It passes wine cellars and the municipality’s main sights. For planning purposes, both its circular layout and approximate length are specific to this route. Check the trail conditions locally before setting out.

Separate from this route are walks and cycling trips through the extensive orchards and vineyards around Žižkovský rybník. The vineyards are therefore not only the backdrop to the circular route, but also part of a wider landscape suitable for walking and cycling.

The Žižkovská vinařská stezka also leads to a hill among the vineyards. From there, you can enjoy views across a landscape framed by Pálava and the White Carpathians massif. The extent of the view depends on the weather.

Pond and Ecological Context

Žižkovský rybník and part of the valley of the Prušánky watercourse upstream of the pond form the local ecological stability system. Specific landscape areas within this zone are also identified: in the infiltration area at the end of the floodplain and below the dam of the Žižkovský rybník biocentre, there are valuable plant and animal communities. Thus, alongside winegrowing, folklore and architectural history, the pond and valley stand out as distinct features of the landscape.
