Radslav is a holiday settlement on a peninsula beyond Bližná, about 4 km from Černá v Pošumaví. It was established after the Lipno Reservoir was filled, on the site of the former settlement of Ratschlag. The present-day holiday settlement and the former settlement thus represent two different chapters in the history of the same place. In addition to this historical connection, the cycling routes, viewpoints and chapel are useful landmarks for planning your trip.

Chapel and local history

On the village square, the individually protected Lípa Radslav lime tree stands beside the local chapel. Protection conditions and access rules may change; check the current requirements before visiting. A municipal notice from 2021 mentions a map in the chapel showing Radslav’s original buildings before they were flooded by the Lipno Reservoir. The exhibit may have changed since then. The chapel’s reconstruction was completed in September 1995. The map draws attention to the former buildings, while the reconstruction puts the building’s later history into context.

Cycling and viewpoints

The Jestřábí Circuit is 8 km long and can be completed by a family cycling at a leisurely pace in less than 50 minutes. Cycling conditions may vary, so use this time estimate as a guide when planning your ride. The most challenging climb on the Jestřábí Circuit to Radslav is rewarded with a viewpoint overlooking Radslavská Bay and Vltavská Bay. Visibility of the bays depends on the weather. The circuit also includes the Radslavské odpočívadlo rest area with a viewpoint; facilities and signage may change.

To the ferry landing and across the peninsula

The route to the ferry landing at Dolní Vltavice runs from Jestřábí through Radslav and Bližná, passing through unspoiled countryside along the right bank of the Vltava. On the crest of the peninsula, a viewpoint overlooks the expanse of the Lipno Reservoir from Horní Planá to Kovářov and the entire Šumava mountain range. Visibility also depends on the weather. From the crest, you can see the reservoir and mountains; on the climb, the focus is on Radslavská Bay and Vltavská Bay.

Access and route options for your stay

Two narrow roads lead from Černá v Pošumaví to Radslav: one via Bližná, the other via Jestřábí. Passing places are needed on the narrow roads when vehicles meet. You can distinguish the two options for your journey by their respective intermediate points.

This lets you choose between a circuit with an estimated time and a route ending at the ferry landing. If the ferry landing is part of your plans, check the ferry service separately.
