Černá v Pošumaví lies on the left bank of the Lipno Reservoir, at its widest point, and within the Šumava Protected Landscape Area. There are several distinct starting points for planning a stay: a lakeside route, water sports, nature and cultural destinations, and a seasonal events programme. Which matters most to you depends mainly on the activities and time of year you want to shape your stay around.

Lakeside route, nature and culture

A 740-metre route, used mostly by both pedestrians and cyclists, runs along the reservoir from the centre of Černá v Pošumaví. It passes below the wastewater treatment plant and then beneath gardens; after that, it connects with the Černá v Pošumaví–Hůrka foot and cycle path. Its clearly stated length makes it easy to plan as a distinct section of a trip. As access conditions may change, it is advisable to check them before your visit.

There are different landmarks to follow on nature trails: the Jestřábí circular route runs in the immediate surroundings of Černá v Pošumaví. The Horem Lesem route passes over Mount Lískovec and through Velké Bahno and Novolhotský Forest. The Velké Bahno area includes extensive spruce-alder stands at various stages of development, as well as significant flora and vegetation. These routes therefore focus both on the trails themselves and on the landscape, though they do not follow the same course.

The Rybářská bašta is also nearby, with an exhibition on fishing and hunting; it can be reached via a route that starts in Černá. In the village, the statue of Saint John of Nepomuk stands beside the west façade of the church. Together with its location in the Šumava Protected Landscape Area, these offer different points of interest for a stay, from nature to a specific cultural monument.

Activities at Lipno

Windy Point is a sandy beach on the Lipno Reservoir with a cocktail bar. Entry is free; seasonal access conditions may change, so it is worth checking before you travel. Activities for children are also available, and may likewise vary by season. Those interested in windsurfing can visit the Lipno Windsurfing school in Černá v Pošumaví. It offers individual lessons, and the necessary equipment can be rented there. Lessons and rentals may vary seasonally. The Adventure Park also has a rope course in Černá v Pošumaví; check its seasonal availability in advance. Camp Jestřábí offers pedal boat rentals; as with this seasonal offering, it is advisable to check current availability.

Fishing from boats is possible on Lipno, and boats can be rented at several locations. This option is on the Lipno Reservoir; boat rental availability may vary seasonally. If you plan to include it in your itinerary, check with the rental provider in advance. This makes it possible to compare water sports with the lakeside route without treating different activities or their conditions as the same.

Seasonal events

Černá v Pošumaví’s regular annual events programme includes Masopust in February. In July and August, the programme includes an open-air cinema with films, fairy tales and concerts. Dates and content may vary. If an event is a deciding factor for your travel dates, check the latest dates and programme before you travel.

Winter activities are also on the calendar in January: these include an ice rink on a frozen body of water and ice-sailing races. Both depend on ice conditions and the current programme. The Yacht Club in Černá v Pošumaví also holds competitions for various yacht classes; check the latest dates for these as well. The seasonal highlights are therefore quite distinct: Masopust is in February, the open-air cinema in July and August, while January activities depend on the prevailing ice conditions.

When choosing a hotel, your planned travel dates may be just as important as your interest in the lakeshore, water sports, nature or events. Černá v Pošumaví offers specific and varied themes to plan around: a 740-metre route by Lipno, seasonal activities and an events programme with clearly stated times of year. For time-dependent offerings, check the relevant dates or conditions before planning your stay around them.
